I just wanted Bob, Jr.´s family to know that my Mother, Vera Dankof, passed away December 4th after 6 months in Hospice here in San Antonio. She will join my Dad at Arlington National Cemetery. My parents held Bob´s parents in great esteem; they were grateful for Bob, Jr.´s thoughtfulness in informing them of his Dad´s passing. I´m presently going through tons of photos and slides of decades past. If I find more items on Bob Jr.´s folks, I will send them along faithfully.

My Mother is in Hospice in San Antonio at 102. In going through tons of documents, letters, slides, books, and pictures, I came across a photo of Bob´s father (Bob, Sr.), with my parents presumably taken at Omaha University circa 1940-41. Bob, Sr. was the Best Man at my parents´ wedding in June of 1941. I thought the Matthews family might like a copy.

Bob´s father, Robert Matthews, Sr., was best man at my parents´s wedding in Omaha in June of 1941. I had been in touch with Bob, Jr. months ago by e-mail, when my father, Colonel Karl Dankof (USAF-ret.), passed away in San Antonio. I regret not having had more time and opportunities to get to know him, and his fine family. May the love of Christ surround Bob and Mark's families in the difficult days ahead. Dearest Cindy,
A coworker just informed me of the accident. Somehow I had missed the awful news of the loss of your beloved Bob & his brother. My heart aches for you and your family. Bob was such a wonderful human being: funny, warm, smart and loving. I remember you both so fondly and how I always marveled at the wonderful and special relationship you shared. You were both so blessed to have each other. Bob was an asset to this world and he will be so missed.
With sincere sympathy,

I'll never forget Bob shutting down Central's big gun in that '69 Final. He was my MVP on that State Championship team.He embodied poise and class in all he did.

Our condolences to Bob's family. Many memories of Bob, who we talked to at the 40th Class reunion. We talked of visiting him in Colorado this summer, and of Prep, and our road trip to St. Louis in 1970. He will be missed. Rick and Shelley Whitman, Papillion, NE.

I remember "Bobby Matthews" from our days together at St. Margaret Mary's grade school, and our family homes were just a block away from each other. I had not seen or heard anything about him for more than 40 years, but the tragic story of his passing brought back a lot of great memories. My sincere condolences to his family.

Dear Cindy, Andy, Doug, and Jessie
My heartfelt condolences for the loss of you husband, father and uncle. I will miss Bob and Mark, but consider myself lucky for having had them as fraternity brothers, and friends for all these years.
Bob was truely a special man. He embodied all that is good in people. For all he achieved in his life, he was the most proud of all of you. He will live on through you and that is a good good thing.
