Robert Milton Simms

1929 - 2017

Robert "Bob" Milton Simms, 87, of Bozeman, MT, passed away May 17, 2017. He was born August 18, 1929, in Terre Haute, IN, to Carson Welty and Marion (Davis) Simms. Bob attended and graduated from the Colorado Academy. After graduation in 1948, he stayed at the school running a dormitory, taking classes at Denver University, and later was given a First Lieutenantship to teach R.O.T.C. He later became a science and health teacher and a football, basketball, baseball and track coach. Bob married Patricia Lee Mountfort in 1953 in Denver, CO, and they raised three children, Mike, Rick and Robin. Together, they ran a dormitory with 72 boarders from 1953 to 1968 with first through seventh graders. The dormitory school was a military boarding school, which became a day school, and in 1972, went coed. Bob retired in 1987 after 38 years with the Colorado Military Academy and remained on as an Alumni Consultant for another 20 years. What a great life for his family to be part of this wonderful school! Bob enjoyed playing tennis and golf, loved to ski, and really enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carson and Marion Simms; wife, Patricia Lee Simms; son, Richard Lee Simms; brothers, James Simms, Thomas Simms and Bill Davis. Bob is survived by his daughter, Robin (Roland) Moore; son, Michael (Michelle) Simms; four grandchildren, Hannah Simms, Murphy Simms, Carson Simms and Kelsey Simms. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 21st at 3 pm at the Colorado Academy. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Bob Simm's Memorial Fund at Colorado Academy, 3800 S.
