Albert Marchant Obituary

Albert George Marchant

1938-2025

Smithfield, UT - Albert George Marchant, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Smithfield on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He was born on March 2, 1938, in Murray, Utah, to Albert Harper and Anne Scheel Marchant, the third of five children. George spent his formative years on the family farm in Peoa until the age of 12, when his family relocated to Montana. There, he briefly experienced the life of a cattle rancher before the family settled in Ogden where he went on to graduate from Ogden High School in 1956.

George always had a deep love for farming. In 1970, he and his brother Raymond purchased their father's dairy farm in Smithfield, where George raised his nine children. Life on the farm created cherished memories and instilled in his children the values of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance. In addition to his responsibilities on the farm, George dedicated 30 years to teaching at Mount Ogden Middle School, leaving a lasting influence on countless students through his steady guidance, patience, and genuine care.

A devoted member of the 12th Ward, George served faithfully in many callings throughout his life, including Bishop and Stake President. He found joy in serving others and did so graciously with a love for those he served. In his later years, he treasured attending the temple weekly with his wife. He also had a great love for family history and devoted many years to that important work.

George is survived by his wife, Charlene, and their nine children: Brenda Guymon, Sherry (Russ) Nance, Brian (Mary) Marchant, Wendy (Michael) Butzburger, Jill (Brian) Petersen, Karen (Paul) Glauser, Scott (Jacki) Marchant, Joanne (Anthony) Lyon, and Julie (David) Christopherson; as well as 32 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Janet Luke and Kathryn Durrant, and two sisters-in-law, Sharol Marchant and Linda Marchant. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Raymond Marchant and Richard Marchant.

George leaves behind a legacy defined by unwavering dedication and perseverance. His hard work was evident in every aspect of his life, from his years on the family farm to his commitment as an educator. He consistently demonstrated devoted service to both God and country, fulfilling callings within his church and serving honorably in the U.S. Army. Above all, George's deep love for his family was the foundation of his life, shaping those around him through his example and care. His firm testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ, guided his actions and inspired others, leaving an enduring impact on his family, community, and all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at the Heritage Ward building in Smithfield, 179 N. 100 E., on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. A viewing will be held from 10:00-12:30 just prior to the funeral.
