Albert Van Otten Obituary
Albert Gerrit Van Otten 95 passed away January 5, 2012 in Port Townsend WA. Albert was born April 16, 1916 to Aldert and Catharina Van Otten in Benmore UT. Albert was a member of the LDS church and served in many callings as a teacher and also on the high council. Albert married his sweetheart Lela Johnson December 3, 1938. Later sealed in the S.L.C. Temple. Albert was a veteran of WWII, serving as a medical surgical tech in China and India until the end of the war. Albert had various jobs and chose to work for Granite School District as head custodian until his retirement. Albert was a hard worker and always took care of his family. Albert is survived by his five children, Victor Van Otten, Colleen Blackburn, Sharon Coon, Dylcia Murray, and Rod Van Otten. And many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Albert had a love of life, of people, and of the outdoors. Farewell to a humble Warrior. Viewing to be held on Friday, January 13,
6-8pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 S. State St., Murray, UT. Graveside dedication will be Saturday, January 14 at noon at Larkin Sunset Gardens 10600 S. 1950 E. Sandy Utah. No flowers please, monetary gifts will be accepted at Jenkins-Soffe mortuary.

Mr. Van Otten made a difference in my early life at Canyon Rim Elementary. We chatted often, and always said hello as we passed in the hall, I had a traumatic time my last year there, but his smile and cheerfulness made it bearable. It's great to know he lived a full (and long!) life. This would have been in the mid-sixties, I have fondly thought of him often.

Al was a good friend of my parents, Raymond and Margaret Johnson of Murray, Utah. They spent a lot of time together. Al recorded music tapes for my parents. When I was a "kid", I remember Al and Lela coming to visit with my parents. Sometimes Victor and Colleen would come with them. Good times, those years. Our Condolences to you and your family.
Al passed away on by Birthday, as did my mother, Margaret, on January 5,2000.

Al was a good friend of my parents, Raymond and Margaret Johnson of Murray, Utah. They spent a lot of time together. When I was a "kid", I remember Al and Lela coming to visit with my parents. Sometimes Victor and perhaps Colleen would come with them. Good times, those years.
In later years, Al recorded music tapes for my parents.They listened to them together. Al would record his comments about the music before each segment of music.
