Alfred Aus Obituary

Alfred EAus  Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully from this earthly exis-tence Oct 18, 2002 in Salt Lake City. Alfred E Aus was born Feb 20, 1910 in Wendell, ID. He grew up as a young lad in Portland, OR. He married his sweetheart, Esther Westby in 1934 and lovingly cared for her the rest of his life. He served his country during World War II, building warships in the Kaiser Shipyards in Portland. After the war, he and his wife Esther, bought Oregon Typewriter Company and built it into the largest independent office machine dealership west of the Mississippi with stores from Seattle to Eugene. He enjoyed teaching and playing tennis and basketball and was active in his church and community affairs. He remained an avid tennis player well into his 80's. Semi-retiring to Santa Barbara, California in 1970, he felt he had found heaven on earth. He is survived by his loving wife, Esther W. Aus; son, Alfred Burton (Judi) Aus; twin daughters, Jan John-stun, Judi (Mike) Allen; 13 grandchil-dren; 37 great-grandchildren; and countless friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Thora Aus; brothers; sisters; and son-in-law. Services will be Thurs. Oct 24, 2 p.m., Peake Memorial Chapel, Milwaukie, OR with graveside services Mon. Oct 28, 12 noon, Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, UT. Remembrances may be sent to the Portland Rotary Charitable Trust, 619 SW 11th, Suite 123, Portland, OR 97205.
