Alice Hafen Obituary

Alice Peel Hafen Mt. Pleasant, Utah Alice Peel Hafen, 97, returned home to her Heavenly Father for a glorious reunion with loved ones on 15 Jan. 2010 in Mt. Pleasant, UT. Alice was born 31 January 1912 in Mt. Pleasant, UT to Peter Azel Peel and Mary Margaret Ericksen Peel, the second daughter in a family of girls - Margaret, Alice, Lois and Barbara. She graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1931 where she sang soprano in many operas and musicals. She married Neil N. Hafen on 20 June 1934 in the Manti LDS temple. They raised two sons, Donald Neil and Peter Leon, and nurtured countless nieces and nephews as her sisters each died at an early age. Always service oriented, her hands were never idle as she sought to do good each day. Skilled at the art of homemaking, she used her heart and hands to bless the lives of others, nourishing our bodies as well as our souls. Alice exhibited extraordinary yet simple faith and grit in challenging times. She maintained a joyful and positive perspective. She was without guile; her heart full of gratitude and humility. She touched the lives of all within her family circle, and considered family her most prized possession. She was the last family member of her generation - our living key and link to a rich pioneer heritage. She helped us unlock the knowledge of who we really are by teaching us about our forebearers and showing us what it means to truly be Christ-like. The circle of her family is numerous. She is survived by two sons, Donald N. of Provo and Peter L. (Kathy) of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 15 "grandspouses" (to Grandma we were all "grands") and six great-great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she considered her own, and they in turn adored their beloved "Aunt Alice." She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Neil N. Hafen and her daughter-in-law, Lela Allred Hafen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January, 23rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Fourth Ward Chapel located at 49 South State, Mt. Pleasant. A viewing will be held Friday, January 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Rasmussen Mortuary 96 North 100 West. There will also be a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fourth Ward Church prior to the funeral services. Burial will be at the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen Mortuary. Online condolences are available at www.rasmussenmortuary.com

To the family of Alice Hafen,
I so loved your mom. She and your father were such a part of our lives in such a beautiful valley of Mt. Pleasant. We loved your dad also. We are related to the Peel's and the Hafens. So there is a lot of family love here. Also, my aunt Lizetta Seely Bush went to school with Alice and they were always at the class reunions and I always took Aunt Lizetta to her class reunions so I even had more access to her in her life and especially after Neil died. She was the littlest, sweetest, lady there ever was. I saw her a year ago, or maybe it was two years ago down at the Seely Reunion at the park. She was with Peter and Kathy and they were over at the Seely Museum. She looked great even then. You have done a wonderful job taking care of her. I know she loved you for being so good to her. Just look at that darling picture of when she was young. I have a picture that Aunt Lizetta had of the two of them in their youth and I will get a copy of it and send it to you. They both looked so great. And your little mom was so beautiful as one can see in her other picture. She was just plain beautiful, inside and out. I know the loss you are feeling. I thought closing the chapter of when my mom and dad, Que and Eva Seely died was the hardest time of my life. And Aunt Lizetta died only about two years ago. Anyway, my prayers are with you and your family and knowing she is so happy being with all of her other family and her wonderful husband, Neil. Love, Tonga Seely Titcomb

Dear Peter, Donald, and Families,
We send our love and sympathy at this time. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Peter, you have always been a dear friend and cousin to me and I have fun memories of those years. Your Mother was a loving, caring, and a very dear lady. A lady small in stature, but a giant in giving of her self and sharing with others. I remember Mother telling us stories of the two of them as they were growing up in Mt. Pleasant. The last time I talked with your Mother was in the kitchen of the Ward House at Mother's funeral as she was bringing in a beautiful dessert for the luncheon. I was driving home one day after being at the cemetery and passed your home on State street as your Mother, bent over, was getting out of her car with a plate of goodies. The tears rolled down my cheeks as I thought of our Dear Mothers and the wonderful generation they had been. They were both beautiful ladies with large hearts of love for everyone. May the memories of your Mother be of comfort to you. God bless you all. Love, Don and Sandra Lay Carter
