Anna Shell Obituary

Anna Mae Boyington Shell

February 24, 1932 ~ March 23, 2023

Anna Mae Boyington Shell passed away peacefully on March 23, 2023 at age 91 due to complications incident to age. She was born on February 24,1932 in Manti, Utah, to Lloyd Samuel Boyington and Brunelda Marie Jacobsen Boyington.

She married George William Shell, Jr. on September 3, 1952 in the Manti Utah Temple. George passed away on December 1, 2017 after 65 years of marriage. They have four children: Phillip (Katie) Shell, Georgann Shell (deceased), Frieda (Brad) Franchina, and Lloyd (Lauriann) Shell.

In addition to three of her children, she is survived by her beloved sister: Joan Akelund; as well as nine grandchildren: Christine, Danielle, Spencer (Elisse), Scott, Zachary (Megan), Jordan (Michelle), Sariah, Rebekah, Emma; and eight great-grandchildren: Tanner, Oliver, Noah, Bailey, Elina, Penelope, Owen, Carter.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in numerous callings throughout her life, including as a Family History Missionary and a Relief Society President.

Anna Mae grew up in Manti, Utah. She later graduated from Manti High School. While attending Snow College (Utah State Agriculture College- Snow Branch) in Ephraim, Utah, she met a gregarious, teasing football player named George Shell from Payson, Utah. Her academic pursuits in Biology and sciences were important to her. She edited the college newspaper her senior year. After graduating from Snow College in 1952, she was married to George later that year.

She was an industrious and thrifty homemaker. Anna Mae continued to care for her home, yard and garden until the final years of her life. Produce was grown and preserved from the garden, clothing and home furnishings were sewn, and she produced well balanced meals for her family - blessings for her family throughout her adult life.

Many summers were spent camping and fishing with George and their children. Mirror Lake in the Uinta Mountains was a favorite spot. Anna Mae was a proficient fisherwoman with a rod and reel named "Eagle-eye Annie".

She and George were able to travel extensively together. Anna Mae said in recent years she'd gone everywhere that she wanted to go.

Anna Mae enjoyed reading. Mary Higgins Clark and Tony Hillerman were among her favorite suspense and mystery authors. She enjoyed a fast paced novel.

Anna Mae nurtured African Violets from her mother in her kitchen window and green plants in the sunniest bedroom. Outside were Four 'O Clocks, Irises, Peonies, Shasta Daisies, Brown-eyed Susans, Primroses, Lilacs, and a very large Snowball Bush. She also loved Tulips - though the deer enjoyed them the most and usually first. Concord grapes ripened on multiple vines in her garden and were bottled into well-loved grape juice, as well as shared with neighbors.

Anna Mae lived a full and worthwhile life. She will be missed.
