Barbara Puglsey Obituary

Barbara Jeanne (Duffin) Pugsley
July 10, 1922~June 26, 2012
ST. GEORGE, UTAH-Barbara Jeanne Duffin was born on July 10, 1922 to Earl Lyman Duffin and Elizabeth Waime Irvine. Barbara was raised in Salt Lake City, the 2nd oldest of six children. As a young girl she enjoyed visiting her grandparents up Mill Creek Canyon and on Jeremy Ranch. She came from pioneer stock on both sides and was active in the L.D.S. church all her life. She was very proud of her heritage and loved her pioneer past.
Barbara married Dewey Creswell Pugsley, Jr. on December 23, 1944 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. After the war they settled in Salt Lake City and began to raise their family of three boys, Richard, Robert, and David.
Barbara thought she would never leave Salt Lake and Elgin Avenue, two doors down from her sister Peggy, but in 1963 Dewey transferred with Young Electric Sign Company, and the family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. She missed her sisters terribly, but always thought it was a good thing for the family to make the move. The Pugsleys were one of the original families of the 21st ward in Las Vegas where they made many lifetime friendships.
Barbara loved being a part of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and enjoyed meeting with the women every month. She loved remembering and telling stories of the past. She was thrilled when one of her family histories was used as a lesson at D.U.P.
For many years Barbara worked as a school banker, first for Western High School and then for Eldorado High School. After retirement she and Dewey served a mission at the Bishop's Storehouse.
After Dewey passed away in 1988, Grandma was always there for sleepovers and to spoil her grandchildren. She lived in Las Vegas for 40 years before she relocated to St. George in 2005 to be closer to her family. Throughout her life Barbara was devoted to her children and grandchildren. They were her light and joy. She was a constant for them growing up, always being there for them for whatever they needed. She will be greatly missed but her presence and love will always be felt in our hearts.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Richard Pugsley (Rose) of Pensacola, FL; David Pugsley (Nanette) of St. George, UT; her grandchildren, Nannette McDonald (Scott) of St. George, UT; Joy Rineer (Ian) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Janae Shields (Parry) of San Francisco, CA; Kyle Pugsley (Sarah) of Los Angeles, CA; Tricia McKean (Jon) of Columbus, OH; and her great grandchildren, Ryan McDonald (Lisa) of St. George, UT; Cooper Shields, Mason Rineer and Penelope Pugsley. She is survived by her sister Janet Reed (Jim) of Sandy, UT. She is preceded in death by her husband Dewey and her son Robert.

Our family has been saddened with the news of Barbara's recent passing. My mother, Willie Murley, worked many years with Barbara at Western High School Las Vegas. Barbara was the school banker at the time. They developed a close personal and professional relationship during their time together. Barbara was always kind and friendly to all of the students she encountered in her duties. We extend our heartfelt condolenses to Barbara's family.

Barbara will truly be missed. She was so kind, loving, a great sister-in-law. I will miss our visits. My thoughts and love are with her family.
