Brent Davis Obituary

Brent Davis
1939 - 2019
Brent Davis, husband, father, grandfather, brother, patriot, protector, friend. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Arnold and Florence Davis, the second of five children and left this life to rejoin his parents and youngest brother Craig on September 9, 2019 in Sandy, Utah. A graduate of South High School who went on to play football for Dixie College, he was a man of strong convictions and great intellect, both of which he used to serve his country in the U.S. Army. Due to his special aptitude he became a member of its intelligence corps., stationed in South Korea. There he met the love of his life, his beautiful wife Nan, whom he brought to the states and together they raised three wonderful children. He was a loving husband. While he was known to many as a tough guy, by his family, he was seen as a humorous and tender hearted man whose example of service, responsibility, determination, and quest for learning helped to shape his children for the better and that legacy lives on in his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. While he's earned his much deserved rest, he leaves a large void in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to call him family or friend.
Professionally, as a man with a strong belief in right and wrong, he made his career with the Salt Lake City Police department for 28 years. His talents were noted as he was soon assigned to the intelligence unit and then detectives division, eventually becoming its Captain. Officers and agents from many other law enforcement agencies came to rely on Brent's knowledge and insight. Well respected, he progressed through the ranks and his advice was often sought by not only those who worked under him, but also by those above his rank. Before retiring, Brent had held virtually every rank in the police department, including that of interim Chief of Police.
We give special thanks to the police officers and their agencies for the daily sacrifices and the tireless support they give to their communities. We also thank the VA for the excellent support they've given to members of the military and their families.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 with a viewing at 1:00 pm and funeral service at 2:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy (10600 S), South Jordan, UT. Online condolences may be shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
He is survived by his wife Nan, children: Candice Pulli, Ryan and Tana Davis, his grandchildren: Alexandra & Anthony Fabela, Isaac Davis, John Pulli, Connor, Trevor, & Kyla Davis, and great grandsons: Niko, Roran, & Jackson, as well as his siblings: Keith, Leslie, & Carol.

Not sure what to say?

September 15, 2019

I was deeply saddened to read of Brent's passing. We had been friends for a long time and I will miss him. We met when he first came on. We were both assigned to "sugarhouse" patrol. He was a good officer and had a great sense of humor. We worked together again in "tactical squads", patrol, detectives, and s.i.d. He was truly one of a kind. Since we both retired, we spoke many times on the phone and it was always enjoyable. Living in Boise Idaho I couldn't get to see him often, but we did talk on the phone now and then and I was glad to see he hadn't changed at all. Still the same old Brent, one of Salt Lake's finest, very finest. As I said, Brent was my friend and he always will be.
My Deepest sympathies to Nan and family, whom I have always enjoyed knowing.

Some men were sent to this earth to be warriors for good. Brent was one. He was a handful when he was young but because of his good parents' guidance, he became an honest and trustworthy individual. I ought to know - he was my brother.
He taught me early the importance of correct pronunciation - aisle is not pronounced ayslee. If you had a question, he knew the right answer. He taught me that cheating was only cheating yourself. He gave me a list of classic books to read - I still have it. He said no matter how hard things get, life will get better, and is worth living. It is.
He was funny, too (in his own weird brotherly kind of way). When I was in high school, he and my oldest brother, Keith, always added things to my daily list of items for school: books, lunch, pencils, witch's hat, broom...
He loved his time in the service and he loved his job on the police force and the friendships he formed there. I wish there were more warriors like him. The fight for right has lost a good one.

I already miss you, Brent

Love, Carol

I first met Brent in 1974. He was my immediate supervisor at SLCPD. Since that time I have worked for & with Brent throughout the rest of my career until he retired. After his retirement we still met for"coffee, advice & gossip". These gatherings continued after my own retirement. Brent was the definition of an individual endowed with uncommon, "common sense". Brent was not only a superior police officer/commander he was a genuine good guy. I will miss him. I offer my sincere condolences to all of his family on his death.

I had the pleasure of serving with Brent on the Salt Lake City Police Department and found him to be an outstanding Officer and friend.
Brent and I were partners on a bowling team for many years and I always looked forward to our day at the bowling alley.
I also had the privilege of golfing with Brent and others from the Police department.
Our little group golfed 2 or 3 days a week at Four Lakes Golf course.
My fond memories of associating with Brent will last forever.
I extend my deepest sympathy to Brent's dear wife Nan, and family.
A friend always
