Catherine Peterson Obituary

Catherine Cryer Peterson

1952 - 2025

- Catherine Cryer Peterson passed suddenly of a brain hemorrhage on December 6th, 2025. Born May 17th, 1952 in Champaign, Illinois to Walter Cryer, Jr. and Patricia Anne Wagner. She is survived by her loving husband Thomas Loyd Peterson, and her 10 children, daughters Jamie Price (Chris), Mary, Jenevieve Bennion (Mike), her sons, Josh, Ben (Natalie), Charlie (Danielle), Paul (Meagan), Ephraim (Alejandra), Sam (Ashley) and Jake (Angie); as well as her 43 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, her siblings, many nieces and nephews and best friend.

She graduated from Orem High School as the class valedictorian in 1970. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in Physical Education majoring in Dance as the Departmental Valedictorian in 1973. Later she would receive her Master's in Education from Utah State University as well as another Master's Degree from George Washington University in Educational Technology Leadership. She was an educator for Granite School District teaching 20 years at Bonneville Junior High School. She served in many leadership capacities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, most recently as the Relief Society President of the Legacy Branch in South Jordan. She and her husband also served as humanitarian missionaries for the LDS church to Guyana and Suriname.

She was an accomplished woman of many talents. Catherine enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge through all things education, reading and travel. She excelled in the arts through writing, calligraphy, painting, barbering, graphic and floral design. She was healthy and active throughout her life. She trained and completed the St. George Marathon six times! Though she was first a mother to her family, her loving influence radiated far beyond them. Her gifts were felt by many others through thoughtful service, and teaching. Noticing and uplifting those around her, she was gentle, amazing, kind, loving and helpful. She loved without distinction.

A viewing will be held the 14th of December, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 pm and the following morning from 9:30-10:30 am in her church building. 1244 West Chavez Drive in South Jordan, Utah. Earlier today

Aunt Cathy was a remarkable woman that always radiated love. I married her nephew, Scott Cryer, in 2016 and even with such a large extended family she always made an effort to come and greet me by name at family gatherings. Though our interactions throughout the years have been brief, her spirit and example have left an impression on me and I am so saddened about her passing. She will truly be missed.

Yesterday

Catherine and I taught at Bonneville Jr. She was an incredible person, always willing to help. I remember that she was very concerned about one of her students. She found out that he needed medical services but his family didn't have the means. She helped by collecting money and soon had enough to be able to make an appointment so his student could get the medical attention he needed.

Cory and Gayle have been friends with Tom and Catherine resulting from a fun trip to the Holy Land we shared with them years ago. We have always admired Cathy's love and enthusiasm for life and all the people around her. We will miss the light and sparkle she adds wherever she goes. She lived her life to the fullest and touched lives wherever she went. Our deepest condolences to Tom and the family.

I didn´t know Catherine personally, but we were cousins. I just wanted to drop my condolences to the entire Peterson and Cryer families. My wife and I are saddened by the loss but judging by the lovely write up here, I would say that there is probably a well deserved celebration of life about to happen! Please know you are in the PA Campbell´s thoughts and prayers during these difficult times! Love to all.

Sincerely,

Andy

Though I´ve known Sr Peterson only for a short time as our Branch Relief Society President, I feel like I´ve known her for a long time. I love her sweet warm personality and her cute little smile. I was looking forward to knowing her better. My condolences to her amazing family. She will be missed on this side, but with her talents and personality she´ll no doubt be very busy on the other side. Till we meet again Dear Catherine.
