Charles Edwards Obituary

1933 ~ 2019
Dr. Charles "Chuck" Bryner Edwards, 85, died 12 February 2019 in his son Brian's home in Spring, Texas. Liver failure took his life even though he had battled and beat prostate cancer last summer while recovering from a broken hip sustained earlier in the year. The year 2018 was one that changed the course of his life as well as the lives of those that loved him. Through it all, he showed incredible courage and poise while giving strength to those around him.
Chuck had been a resident of Farmington, Utah since June 1976. He was born 22 Oct 1933 in Price, Utah to Charles Wesley and Annie Fern Bryner Edwards. His early childhood years were spent in Las Vegas until his parents divorced when he was 8 and his sister was almost 2.
He spent his formative years moving around and living with relatives that he credits with having a profound positive influence on his life. Multiple family members were helpful in his upbringing and setting good examples for him to follow. Moving to American Fork, Utah in 1949 with his mother and sister was a major turning point in his life and the time when he felt he really began to live.
After graduation from American Fork High School in 1951, he began his college career at Brigham Young University. In March 1954 he was called to the New England Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in Massachusetts until 1956. Upon arriving home he immediately had to report to the draft board where he served in the United States Air Force until being honorably discharged 18 months later. He returned to BYU where he reconnected with his childhood friend, Gareth Wootton, who encouraged Chuck to go into medicine. This ended up being a pivotal moment in his young life.
He graduated with a B.S. from BYU, followed by an M.D. from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington D.C.. He served an internship at King County Hospital in Seattle, Washington. He fulfilled residencies at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City as well as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital for Cancer in New York City, New York. Chuck completed his training with a fellowship at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
He was Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, and was on the Board of Directors of the Utah Division of American Cancer Society. Chuck was a noted practicing cancer surgeon in Salt Lake City for 34 years. He loved being a surgeon and helping his patients.
In 1963 Chuck married Carole Jean Crowley of Twin Falls, Idaho. They are the parents of seven sons. He has enjoyed hunting and fishing from early childhood, he played and coached basketball and baseball, was a Scoutmaster, member of the bishopric and a stake high counselor. In 1991 he was listed as #489 in The Grand Slam Club by the North American Sheep Hunters' Association. He was an avid supporter of wildlife preservation and conservation and believed in leaving the outdoors better than you found it.
Chuck is survived by his wife and their seven sons: Chuck of Ogden, UT; Mark (Kori Ann) of Hooper, UT; Larry (Elizabeth) of Eden, UT; Craig (Pavlina) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Scott (Keri) of Newburgh, Indiana; Shane (Amanda) of Payson, Utah; and Brian (Kaori) of Spring, Texas; and 20 grandchildren; his sister Ann (James) Burr of Salina, Utah.
Funeral services will be held on March 2nd at 10:00 am at the Farmington Rock Chapel, 272 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah. Interment of his ashes will be at the Farmington Cemetery following the service. A celebration of his life with family and friends will take place from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Fountain View Events, 164 West Promontory #200, Farmington, Utah.
Chuck's family would like to express their gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and caregivers who provided service to him during his final months. The love and compassion shown by you will forever be appreciated.

Since we don't take a paper, we didn't see this in time to attend the services. Dr. Edwards did a couple of procedures on me that made my life better including a malignant melanoma removal from my leg that, thankfully, hadn't gone deeper. He also did successful cancer surgery on my father-in-law, Marvin Anderson, Carole's uncle. My husband, Lennis Anderson is Carole's cousin. I think the last time we saw him and Carole was at Aunt Ethelda's birthday party in Orem or Provo. Long time ago. We are sorry you have lost him. Our experience with him was as a gentle, competent and caring doctor. I don't have an address for us to visit sometime but will give you our contact info so you may let us know yours, if you choose. Our address is 3124 S. 4500 W., West Valley City, UT 84120. Lennis's phone #801-867-1737. His email is [email protected] and mine is [email protected]. May you have comfort and peace and know he blessed many lives besides yours. - Myrna Anderson

My wife was a distant cousin to Chuck through the Bryner line. She was one of his first patients to receive lump removal from the breast rather than radical mastectomy for which she was extremely grateful, and lived many years longer due to his skill and knowledge.

I am confident she was among the hundreds of his many patients waiting in line to thank him as he was greeted across the veil.

I assure you that he will with your family and be watching over you and you will be aware of his loving care.

With Love and condolences...Gerald Robinson,O.D

Chuck (Dr.) Edwards was a soft- spoken man of few words, but amazing depth and intelligence. It was a privilege designing multiple medical and residential projects for him and Carol, who rapidly became treasured friends. I feel it was a privilege to have known Chuck, and all the great experiences we shared together with him and Carol. We rejoice knowing he can now progress forward with his amazing abilities, and no longer be a captive of his ailing body. Watch over us Chuck until we meet again! In the meantime we celebrate your life well-lived, and that we were privileged to be a part of it.

He was a great doctor. I feel like he saved my life when I had cancer in 1994. His skill and compassionate care has been a great blessing to me and, I'm sure, to many others.
