Charles Kimball Obituary

Colonel Charles Coulam Kimball 1918 ~ 2003  Charles passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Monday, July 21, 2003.  He was born July 7, 1918 to Ernest Rollow and Fanny Coulam Kimball, the youngest of six children. He married the love of his life, Verlyn Wright Kimball, August 11, 1975. Educated at Utah State and University of Utah. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1941 as a flying cadet. Served as a B-24 and specialized flight instructor for World War II. Also flew B-17's over seas. He served in Europe and Africa, retired after 30 years as a full Colonel. He received many medals, honors and awards. Served as Reserve Base Commander at Wendover, Utah for nine years. He owned and operated Commercial Display for 30 years. Charles was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Sunday School teacher and Explorer Scout leader. He helped build the Crystal Heights Ward and Rosalyn Heights Ward. Charles loved to hunt, fish and ride motorcycles with his wife Verlyn. Together they boated, camped and took their trailer to Mexico. He also loved dancing. Charles had a great sense of humor. Everyone loved Charles and he always had a good joke to tell. He and his brothers always deer hunted together on Monroe Mountain. Married M. Henroid, later divorced. He will be missed dearly by his wife Verlyn; his children Carolyn Kimball, Sue Kinka, CA; Charles Richard Kimball (Jeanna), St. George; Sally Howard (Cal), Kathy Thomas (Steve), Salt Lake; Linda Rokachavich, Canada; step-children Kevin Bennett (Becky), JoLyn Foerster (Harold), Salt Lake, and David Bennett (Laura), Virginia Beach, VA. Together they had 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Survived by one brother, Louis Kimball, Kaysville. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers Rollow, Ernest, Preston and John Kimball; and one grandson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 12 noon, at the Monument Park 7-8th Ward Chapel, 1794 So. Texas Street (2430 E.) Friends and family may visit Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and Saturday from 10:45 to 11:45, prior to the service at the ward. Interment: Memorial Estates Mtn.View Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 S. All drugs have been removed from premises.
