1927 ~ 2021
Riverton, UT —Cora Sieverts (Neerings) (Hathaway) Elggren, 94, passed away October 12, 2021 of natural causes. Cora was born April 28, 1927 to Peter and Nelly Sieverts Neerings who were Dutch immigrants. She was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating from Granite High School. Cora's first job was a secretary at Utah Woolen Mills. She met Leonard Hathaway on a double date at the Rainbow Rendezvous where they decided they liked one another more than their dates. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple following WWII. Cora and Leonard raised their 4 children in South Salt Lake. They were foster parents in the Indian Placement Program to include 7 foster children. After Leonard passed, Cora served a full time mission in Nashville, Tennessee. She remarried Allen Elggren and gained his adult children and many more grandchildren. Cora lost Allen four years later, losing two husbands to cancer. She served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a total of four temple missions in the Jordan River Temple and Washington, D.C. Temple.
Cora lived a life filled with service and was always baking something to share with others. She was fortunate to be able to travel extensively and made friends wherever she went. In her last years, she lived for visits, "milk nickels," and phone calls lasting less than 20 seconds. Cora was loved dearly and will be missed by her family and friends.
Cora is survived by her children Rebecca (Creighton) West, Heather (Mark) Dodge, Janice (Mrs Bruce) Hathaway, Allen (Linda) Elggren, Wayne (Deanna) Elggren, Ken Elggren, Steve (Debbie) Elggren, and Norinne (John) Boyle, Craig (Cheryl) Elggren, foster children Russell Begay, Yolanda Neil, 41 grandchildren, and a plethora of great grandchildren.
