David Irl Beecroft

David Irl Beecroft Will Be Missed  David Irl Beecroft, age 77, met his expiration date early Monday, June 28, 2004. He was always late; this may be one of the few times he has ever been on time.Born and raised in Douglas, Arizona, David lived a colorful youth near the Mexican border; borrowing donkeys, building forts, and generally causing mischief. The oldest son of nine children, David helped care for his family after his own father died when David was 16. He served a mission for the LDS Church to Mexico, graduated from BYU in English literature, and was drafted into the military during the Korean conflict. He married Verlane Gillespie on December 27, 1967 in the Manti Temple. She was the love of his life. He worked as a social worker in the Los Angeles area for over 30 years and retired to Provo in 1983. He was an avid reader, music lover, and philosopher; after spending his youth in the desert he seemed to love the sea most of all. He raised six children to be as stubborn and individual as he was and rejoiced in his family and grandchildren. He cherished and loved his wife, Verlane, above all else. Humor and laughter filled his life and his wit was razor sharp and keenly sarcastic. He was greatly admired and deeply loved by his family and will be missed. He has returned to his father, mother, brother and son, all who have passed on before. From where he now stands, he can see the ocean once again. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Grandview East 4th Ward missionary fund, for the local Spanish ward missionaries serving in Latin American. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the Grandview East Stake Center, 1081 West 1060 North, Provo. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills. Services under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo.
