David Jeppson Obituary

David Hans Jeppson

David Hans Jeppson age 86 passed away peacefully on Friday March 10th 2022

St George, Utah —

David Hans Jeppson, age 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 10, 2022, due to factors incident to age. He was born on January 8, 1936 in Holladay, Utah, to Rulon and Ruby Parrish Jeppson. On June 1, 1956, in the SLC temple, David married June Almond, thus securing his opportunity to continue what would become their epic 65-year-long love affair.

After growing up on family farms in the Salt Lake valley and Southeast Idaho, David completed his bachelor's degree in Business Administration at University of Utah in 1958. After farming for a brief period, he changed course, completed a Master's degree in hospital administration at UCLA, and eventually would work for many years as the executive vice president for Intermountain Healthcare. He was a past president of the American College of Health care executives. At the height of his career, he was regarded as one of the nation's foremost healthcare executives.

David and June raised their family largely in Farmington, Utah, after which they lived their retirement years in Toquerville & St. George. David served faithfully in many LDS church callings including bishop, stake president, mission president, temple presidency and sealer.

David was passionate about the outdoors, gardening, basketball, skiing, swimming, and other sports. He traveled the world for business and leisure.

David will be remembered particularly for his love of life, his friendliness, his warmth and humor, his willingness to lift others and his commitment to living like his Savior. He and his wife, June, will be remembered for their exemplary life-long partnership. He will be missed dearly and remembered lovingly.

David is survived by wife June, and children Jeff (Valanne), Jim (Janette), Joe, Jerod (and late wife Sharon), Jay, Jill (Darren), John (Heather), Jordan (Amanda), 31 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren (with 4 more on the way) plus two sisters, Lynn and Barbara. He is preceded in death by brothers, John and Bruce, daughter-in-law Sharon, and granddaughter Jazymn June.

The family would like to thank all medical personnel and friends who participated in his final weeks of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to higher education, missionary work, or the humanitarian aid of your choice.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 18 at the LDS chapel at 881 South River Road in St. George, Utah, from 10am-noon. All are welcome to participate in the family graveside service via the following Zoom link:

Dave was an inspiration to me as 19 year old college student wondering about hospital administration as a career. At UW he made time to advise me about college and graduate school and military service. His enthusiasm was compelling. I owe him much.

I never had the opportunity to meet David Jeppson. But what I do know is this, his sons certainly blessed my son life, Michael Cook Junior with all their efforts on his behalf to make our home more wheelchair accessible. I am eternally grateful for them and I know that they come from great stock. All my prayers and love to the Jeppson family and hopes of peace and love moving forward. Tenley love Michael and Karen Cook, formerly from Farmington Utah now living here in Northern Virginia.

What an incredible influence Dave Jeppson had on our lives and those of our children. "Itchy" reached super hero status in our eyes. He was the best Bishop we ever had! He and June were some of our dearest friends. He took our son Thad to a Jazz game with some pretty sweet seats! He also let Thad work to pay off some things he bought for him. Dave told the story far and wide of explaining to our daughter Erika what happened to Brownie the cow! He apologized thousands of times for Ozzie eating our bunny Thumper. We shall always remember his warm chuckle, and his advise for life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love you Jeppsons!

Dave and June moved to the old 24th Ward on Wall Street in Salt Lake City shortly after they were married. I was about 14 years old at the time and I remember how nice Dave was to all the boys in the Ward. I've thought about him many times over the years with great fondness. My sympathies to his family.

So sorry to hear about David's passing. He and I are first cousins. We both had memberships in the old Deseret Gym. Often I would run into him in the hallway on the south side of gym. I came to look forward to these meetings. He was always so positive and affirming. I now miss Bruce , John and now David.

Having Dave Jeppson as our bishop made a difficult time for me and my children bearable. He loved, counseled, blessed, and encouraged us. Getting to see him and June occasionally through the years brightened my day. I am forever grateful for the influence Dave was in my life. I am forever better for having known him. Love and gratitude goes out to his family for sharing their husband and father with us. May you be comforted in knowing how much he loved all of you.

David is NY first cousin, our dad's were brothers. I have always loved David, he is beyond kind..generous..so caring! He loved his pecan trees and loved sharing..and they were so delicious! I loved serving in the temple..I would be standing at a post and would see him coming down the hall with those kind smiling eyes..he would walk right over to me and give me the warmest hug...I will miss him..what a reunion he must be having with the Jeppsons in heaven! Sending all my love to precious June. A lady equally yoked with her good husband!

Dave was such a blessing in my life growing up in the Boise 6th ward. Such a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. He was our young mens leader for several years and we all looked up to him. He and June were newly married and he was working for General Mills at the time. Such a nice young couple and such a good example for us young teenagers. I
still remember the trip where he took us to southeastern Idaho among many other vivid memories of those times. We all love love you, Dave Jeppson!

Bishop Jeppson was a blessing to our family when we moved from
Michigan to Utah in 1987. It was quite an adjustment for us and our three children to go from the mission field to Zion! Bishop Jeppson was loving, caring, helpful, considerate and the most wonderful friend as we adjusted and were given callings and responsibility's in his Ward. We loved our interaction with all the Jeppson´s who lived in the Ward. Our love and sympathy to all the family.

President Jeppson was an amazing mission president. He was exactly who I needed to lift me up and teach me how to be more like my Savior. I grew so much under his leadership. He leaves a huge void in the world, but has blessed so many. My sincere condolences to June and the rest of his family.

My deepest sympathy to the family. President Jeppson was an amazing example, friend, and leader. He was my Mission President when I arrived in England in December 1995. He had a way of uplifting and inspiring unlike anyone I have ever met. Every time I spent time with him I left feeling like I was his favorite missionary. His kindness and love is something I will never forget and I have used his example in my own leadership positions both in the church and the workplace. I will be forever grateful for being able to know and learn from him.

I will definitely miss this sweet giant of a man. So many fond memories of him at family gatherings, in the ward, in our Stake and especially in the Temple. He told me about a month ago that he was going to report to Dad when he sees him again and let Dad know how is family is. Thank you Uncle Dave.

I am so blessed to have known Uncle Dave. The stories my mom told me about growing up with him always made me laugh. He´s always been so fun and a real character. He has been such a great example to me and I will miss him.
