Donald DeYoung Obituary

Donald Ray DeYoung, cherished husband, father, and grandfather, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his home in Fort Worth, Texas, in the presence of family.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Henry and Marion DeYoung on August 21, 1932, he grew up in a loving home with eight siblings. He was a lifelong member of the LDS Church. He graduated from Granite High School, attended the University of Utah, and served an LDS mission to the Netherlands. He also served honorably in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed a 35 year career with GMAC, advancing in various positions throughout the company.
Shortly after gaining employment with GMAC, he met his beautiful future wife, Marjorie Thalman. They were married April 5, 1960 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 1973, Donald was promoted to Branch Manager in Abilene, Texas where he and family spent twelve happy years. In 1985, he was transferred to the Fort Worth branch where he remained until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement from GMAC, he worked as a consultant for James Woods Motors. Donald and Marjorie celebrated 52 years of marriage until her death in 2012. Both treasured any and all time spent with family, especially their grandchildren. He will be remembered for his optimism and enduring will that helped him persevere and give strength to family in the face of life's most difficult challenges. He was honest, compassionate, and fair in all of his interactions with others. His sense of humor and quick wit had the power to put others at ease and provided his grandchildren with many happy memories.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marjorie, and their daughter, Jennifer Lynn DeYoung, as well as siblings Ruth Knowlton, Anna Call, Lewis DeYoung, John DeYoung, and Lowell DeYoung.
He leaves behind two brothers, Melvin (Jean) DeYoung, Rulon (Diane) DeYoung and sister, Neoma (Earl) Lloyd, all of Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as his children, Dawn Katheryn Bashi and husband, Vahid, of Monument, Colorado, James Patrick DeYoung and wife, Casi, of Dallas, Texas and Kimberley Ann Marvin and husband, Dylan, of Fort Worth, Texas, and his beloved grandchildren, Hannah Bashi, Kate Marvin, Mason DeYoung, Olivia DeYoung and Daniel Bashi.

Mr. DeYoung was my adopted Dad. He and Miss Marge hold a very special place in my heart. Actually Mr. DeYoung hired me with GMAC (now Ally) 37 years ago this past March. I will be eternally grateful for him giving this lady a chance. Hopefully I made him proud, and never let him down. May God Bless the DeYoung family and know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Teresa Crawford
