- Dorothy Gay Tweddle Millet, of Salt Lake City, Utah, has passed away at the age of ninety-four, on November 23, 2025, of natural causes; surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Dorothy was the last living member of her generation in both her and her husband's family.

She and her husband Denton are the parents of seven children.

Birth, Early Years: Dorothy was born in Delhi, Louisiana on October 4th, 1931, to Roy Earl Tweddle and Ethel Elane Wright Tweddle (Foy). Dorothy was their only child. Her father worked on the Mississippi River boats, traveling up and down the river. Jobs were difficult to come by, so her father remained at this job all his life. He was away working for much of Dorothy's growing up years, and so she spent most of her time being raised by her mother and her aunt. She also made regular visits to her grandmother and grandfather's farm nearby.

Education: Dorothy graduated from Delhi High School in 1948, then went on to Northeast Jr. College, majoring in Secretarial Skills, including typing & shorthand, earning a two-year degree.

Courtship and Marriage: Dorothy and her husband first met when he was serving as a missionary for the LDS church in Louisiana. After Denton completed his mission, he later returned to Louisiana to court Dorothy. They were married on December 2nd,1949. Dorothy left her family in Louisiana and moved to Utah, where their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Family Life: Dorothy and Denton had seven children, one girl and six boys, who they raised primarily in Utah, and moved many times during those years looking for better opportunities. Some of those places included Granger, St George, the Avenues, and finally settling in Taylorsville, Utah.

Dorothy appreciated being a mother and grandmother more than any other accomplishment of her life. She was always there for her children, and as they began to marry and have families of their own, then her grandchildren. She tried to recognize all birthdays and holidays with a card and acknowledgement, and attended endless family functions, including marriages, graduations, sports activities, school and community performances of both her children and grandchildren. She was able to make each member of the family feel special and honored by her love and support.

Career: Dorothy worked in the life Insurance industry for twenty-five years as a secretary in various positions, finishing as a legal secretary at Beneficial Life Insurance, where she worked for twenty-three years, and retired at the age of sixty-five.

Dorothy remained as a full-time homemaker for twenty-one years, before needing to go to work to help support her family at the age of forty.

Special Interests: She loved music, gardening, and travel, and kept her family involved in cultural events and interests.

After her conversion at the age of seventeen, Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which she remained active until her health declined in her final two years. She served in various positions within the church, and sang in the church choir and was organist for the choir.

She also sang in Sterling Poulson's chorale: The Choral Arts Society of Utah. Among their noteworthy performances, they sang in Carnegie Hall and toured New York for 5 days in the year 2000.

Posterity: Dorothy was preceded in death by her spouse, Darwin Denton Millet Sr, and her son, Daniel Leroy (Kris) Millet.

She is survived by six children: Dorothy (Brent, deceased) Johanson, Darwin (Annette, deceased) Millet, Benjamin (Debbie) Millet, David Millet, Stephen (Mary) Millet, Joseph Millet; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

Six of her seven children served full-time missions, including her daughter Dorothy, who is currently serving a full-time mission at the age of seventy-four as a widow.

All seven of her children were married in the temple. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren have served missions, and many more will probably do so.

After the passing of her husband, Denton, Dorothy married his brother, Byron C. Millet, who was a widower, on June 19, 1999. They provided comfort and companionship to each other. Byron passed away on August 4, 2007.

Dorothy was deeply loved and admired for all the love and service she gave to her family and community throughout her life. Many people knew and loved her over her lifetime. She will be greatly missed but has returned home to our Father in Heaven and Lord Jesus Christ, of whom she kept an unwavering testimony. She is also with her deceased husband, son, mother and father, and many other family members, loved ones, and friends beyond the veil.

A Viewing will be held on Friday night, December 5th, 2025 6:00 – 8:00 PM: at the Jenkins Soffe Mortuary: 4760 S. State Street Murray, Utah

Funeral/Memorial Services will be held at the chapel of the Hunter 2nd Ward: 3970 S. 5200 W., West Valley City, Utah, Saturday December 6th, 2025 starting with a short viewing at 10:00 AM. The funeral will be held from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM

Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery: 5490 S Vine St, Murray, UT, where she will rest in peace, next to her husband, Denton.
