Douglas Morrison Obituary

Douglas William Morrison

1940 ~ 2025

Orem, UT-Douglas William Morrison passed away Monday, November 24, 2025, peacefully at his home in Orem, Utah. He was born April 7, 1940, to Francis Elggren and Cleo Mickelson Morrison in Lovell, Wyoming, the fourth of eight children- Evan, Ron, Beverly, Anne, Richard, Sue, and Bruce.

A man of discipline and accomplishment from an early age, Doug earned his Eagle Scout, lettered in three sports and graduated with honors from Lovell High School in 1958. Later that year he attended BYU.

After serving a 2 year mission in the Gulf States, he resumed academic pursuits at BYU. In 1964, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Accounting as a Hinckley Scholar, and was chosen the Outstanding Man in his class. He became a licensed CPA that year.

While at BYU, he met the love of his life, Susan Bankhead- he would nurture, adore and temper her for eternity. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 31, 1964 and blessed with six children: Steve, Heidi, John, Scott, Andrew and Brian.

Doug graduated from the University of Utah Law School, Order of the Coif, in 1968. He was admitted and qualified to practice before the United States Supreme Court and served as a member of the Utah State Bar for 52 years, and as a CPA for 56 years. He considered it a privilege to be an attorney - an opportunity to be of service to one's fellow man. He was a great listener who treasured his relationships with clients.

Doug served on the boards of the Provo Chamber of Commerce, the Provo Food & Care Coalition, the UVSC (now UVU) Board of Trustees (four years as Chairman), and on several boards for private foundations. He gave countless hours of pro bono service to those with special legal and personal needs.

Doug loved music. He played the piano and honed his vocal talents singing in various choirs, including as a member of the Tabernacle Choir for three years.

He loved to testify of Jesus Christ and the truthfulness of the restored gospel. He was always looking for ways to serve and help others and filled many callings in the church.

Doug enjoyed being a lawyer and had a busy and demanding law practice, but what he loved most was being home with his family and spending time with his wife and children- he always made time for them. A few of his treasured memories include coaching his children's little league teams, golfing with his sons, and singing with his daughter. He and Susan rejoiced as each grandchild joined the family.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Susan; children Steve, Heidi (Rick), Scott, Andrew, and Brian (Melissa); siblings Anne, Sue, Richard, Bruce; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son John, his parents, brothers Evan and Ron, and sister Beverly.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 12 p.m. at the Canyon View 10th Ward, 762 East 1200 North, Orem, Utah. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing between 10:15–11:45 a.m. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 North 650 East, Provo, Utah.
