Elithe Doxey Obituary

Elithe W. Doxey "Together Forever" Elithe Winegar Doxey, a great wife, mother and teacher, died peacefully at home in Alpine, Utah, 5 Sept.2005. She was born 21 June 1924 at home in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Sterling Winegar and Pearl Victoria Langford. Elithe met her eternal sweetheart, William Hayes Doxey, at East High School. They were married a year after graduation, 15 April 1943, in the Salt Lake Temple. Bill and Elithe stand together as the parents of ten families now totaling 172, including: Gary and Michal Miller, Roswell, NM; David and Sharlee Rands, Cedar Hills, UT; Clair and Helen Rogers, Riverton; Mark and Debbie Doxey, Laie, HI; Rick and Kristine Kiholm, Camino, CA; Gretel Doxey, Alpine; Carl and Mary Ann Shoff, American Fork; Jonathan and Becky Doxey, Alpine, UT; Jared and Jena Doxey, Kaysville; David and Molly Dean, Highland; and two more dear daughters Ethel Stallings and Marlene Garnham; 54 grandchildren with 34 spouses and 62-soon-to-be-66 great grandchildren. As she left this life she was happily met by her dear husband Bill, son Warren Cottrell, and daughters Helen and Marlene. When her last child started school, she returned to the University of Utah and graduated cum laude, certified to teach Home Economics. She taught in Utah and Colorado for 20 years, finishing her career at Alpine District's Young Mothers School serving as principal, secretary, teacher, and surrogate mother to many young women. Bill and Elithe served a mission together in Smithers, British Columbia. She also served several times as president of the Relief Society, Young Women and PTA. She taught many classes, in food preservation, gospel doctrine and homemaking skills. Elithe worked very hard to stretch her income to care for her large family. She baked all the bread, canned thousands of bottles of food, rolled out countless pie crusts, sewed all the dresses, draperies and slipcovers, embroidered, knitted, managed a small farm, made do and did without. She was the heart of her family's home, spearheading prayers, family home evenings, late night talks, family reunions and meal after meal after meal. Elithe loved her brothers and sisters and their families; Ray and Marge Winegar, LeMar and Beverly Winegar, Wen and Norma Winegar, Keith and Virginia Winegar, James and Liz Winegar, D'Monte and Joan Coombs, Buzz and Caroline Winegar, Keith and Carol Otteson and Barry and Jean Winegar. She also loved her in-laws and their families; Graham and Leone Doxey, Helen and Vere Frampton, Chet and Georgia Pratt, Ed and Mildred Porter, Jack and Phyllis McAfee and Tom and Eunice Doxey. Funeral services for Elithe will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the Alpine Utah North Stake Center, 1125 East Alpine Boulevard, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, and Thursday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church. Intement, Alpine City Cemetery. Instead of floral displays Elithe wished donations to be made to the General Missionary fund of the LDS Church.

Dear Sharlee, I am sorry only because I know how much you will miss your mother. She must have been a real strength to you and your family. She sounds like a great lady to know. I am sorry I was out of town (again) at a time in your life I would liked to have shared with you. Love, Betty

Dear Doxey Family:

We were sorry to hear of Elithe's passing. She has always been such a sweet presence in our Alpine neighborhood. She will be missed by all who knew her. As she has said to us many times, she was looking forward to the time when she could join her beloved Bill, so her family can be comforted in the knowledge that she is finally able to join him. May the Lord's spirit comfort those that will miss her the most.

Dear Cousins: (Family of Uncle Bill and Aunt Elithe)

How we have loved the influence you have had on us as a family. Your Mom and Dad stood out as bright lights of example in family togetherness and preparedness. They were wise and fun and seemed to know everything about life. We have many memories of family reunions and associations. We send our love and prayers for your comfort at this special time. Sorry we couldn't have been with you at the funeral. Mucho amor.

My love and prayers go with each of you at this time of sorrow. May the Lord comfort you in the days to come. I love Elithe for the great friendship she has nurtured with my own grandmother. She is loved dearly, and will be greatly missed.

Thanks for many fond memories of both Elithe and Bill. Both were really valuable in the Winder 3rd and 7th Wards. Many were the times we spent in socials and in the work of the kingdom. When they finally moved from the stake they left a real void in many lives, mollifid a little by a cousin Ruth Redd Barrett who movedainto the house.

Our memories include the other Winegars to numerous to mention. Wen and I served together in many stake callings.

Mark has been good to remember us as he lives here in Laie and his visit brought memories of the family.

Our deepest sympathy to all of you. Like my own sainted mother who died at 92, you can always reagard this time as a celebration of a marvelous life. Our deepest sympathy to all of the family.

Our condolences, warmest wishes and respect to your family. We know several of the children and their lives speak well of their mother and father's love and goodness. We hope and pray the funeral and burial will be peaceful, loving and all that Sister Doxey would have wanted it to be.
