Salt Lake City, UT-Faye Stuart McLaren passed away of natural causes in her home July 1, 2017. She was born Feb. 28, 1927 in SLC to Ruth Farnow and Roy Stuart. Faye was the youngest of four girls. She graduated from East High and the University of Utah where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Faye married Keith Roy McLaren Dec. 16, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple and together they created a beautiful life. She was loved by many.
As a faithful member of the LDS Church, our mother served valiantly in many callings, including Salt Lake Temple ordinance worker, Relief Society President, Church Office Building hostess, Gospel Doctrine teacher and Young Women President.
She loved fine literature, music, traveling and writing poetry. Mom was the consummate hostess. She loved to cook, have parties and was famous for her sweet rolls and caramels. Seconds, thirds anyone?
Faye dedicated her life to selfless service and leaves behind a legacy of helping others. Among her many contributions to charities, was a tireless participation in Assistance League and the U of U Alumni Association Board. Through the U of U International Student Friendship program she 'adopted' a student, Weimen Li and forged a lifelong relationship with him and his family.
Mom loved games and was always ready to play. She was an avid bridge, hearts, pounce and gin player. She loved tennis and was a dynamo on the court until she was 80, wielding a wicked 'side arm' serve that baffled her opponents! Faye was one half of the 'McLaren & McLaren' ensemble with her husband Keith. They created and performed a 'Reader's Theater' which entertained many groups over many years. Mom loved and lived life with an enthusiastic, exuberance! We LOVE you mom!
She had a strong testimony of Christ and an understanding of her purpose here on earth. She was ready and prepared to join her dear husband Keith, who preceded her from this earthly life 16 years ago.
Survivors include Kent (Chris), Laguna Niguel, CA, Kathy (Brent) Bell, Farmington, UT, & Stuart (Kathy), Holladay, UT. She was a loving grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 So. In Salt Lake City, on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 2:00pm with a visitation to start at 12:30pm prior to the service. Interment will be held at Salt Lake Cemetery.
