Gary Nielsen Obituary
In 1960, Gary and Bonnie opened the first drag strip in Salt Lake City - Salt Lake Raceway. They later moved to California and opened Performance Auto Parts in Fullerton, CA, which he managed until he retired in 1993. They moved back to Utah and enjoyed traveling and going to vintage car shows and swap meets together.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, his daughter Lori, his son-in-law Ken, his grandson Joshua, his parents, and his brothers: Robert, Hubert "Buzz," and Brent.
He is survived by his children: Leslie (Kevin), Mishelle, Kristina (Cesar), and Steven; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his sister Dorothy.
A viewing will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd (10600 S), Sandy, Utah, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Pinecrest Ward, 2080 E. Pinecrest Lane, Sandy, Utah, with a viewing beginning 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.

I remember Gary. His strip was on the North side of 2100 South and picked up where Airport #2 left off. I raced my '53 Olds and my Dad's '57 Chev there. Fun memories!
