Georgia Rytting Shaw 1920 ~ 2006 Georgia Elizabeth Collins Rytting Shaw passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 18, 2006; returning home to her Heavenly Father and many loved ones who preceded her in death. Georgia was born on May 30, 1920 in Carter, Montana to Thomas Kirkwood Collins and Helen Belle Colby. She grew up on a dairy farm outside of Fort Benton, Montana along with two older sisters and an older brother. She served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in southern California from 1947 to 1948. She married Ralph Dean Rytting in December of 1948 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They made their home in Salt Lake City. They had two children (Ralph Colby and Elizabeth "Buffie") and a still born child (Minette). Ralph and Georgia were married for 22 years, until Ralph's death in 1971. In 1972 she married Lawrence Farley Shaw, to whom she has been married for 34 years. Georgia was a woman who possessed both great inner strength and faith, coupled with great musical talent. She worked for 27 years in the Drivers License Division of UDOT, ultimately ascending to the position of director. She had a beautiful alto voice, and was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 29 years. Because her husband Ralph had hemophilia at a time when there was no medical technology to deal with it, she lived compassionately with his suffering, and the reality that he might not survive any given year. She demonstrated great faith and strength during the attendant financial and emotional hardship of those times, from which her family greatly benefited. Her integrity was immovable. After she married Lawrence, they served a mission in South Africa from1983 to 1984; served in the Salt Lake Temple as an assistant supervisor; and in many church callings including her ward Relief Society presidency and as ward choir director. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from which she never wavered. She is survived by her husband Lawrence Farley Shaw; son R. Colby Rytting (Janet); daughter Elizabeth "Buffie" Barkdull (Larry); son Mike Shaw (Glenda); daughter Beverly Berry (Dean), 22 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Dean Rytting, her parents, two sisters (Helen and Gladys), and brother (Kirk). Viewing will be held on Friday, April 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary; 2350 E. 1300 S. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 22nd at 12:00 noon at the Millcreek Ward at 3408 Celeste Way. Viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral.
