Glen Petersen
1942 - 2025
Lehi, Utah - Glen Stanley Petersen returned home on December 27, 2025. Glen was born on June 14, 1942, the third of nine children and the oldest son born to Stanley John Petersen and Vida Carlson Petersen. He grew up in
Garland, Utah, farming sugar beets with his father, and bought his own baler at 14, with which he earned the money to serve two years as a missionary in the Southwest British mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Glen attended Brigham Young University and earned a degree in mechanical engineering. He remained a devoted fan of BYU. While there, he met his eternal sweetheart, Julie Kay Taylor. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on June 3, 1966, and were married for 59 years. They settled in Kennewick, Washington, where Glen worked at the Hanford nuclear reservation for many years and served as a bishop and in the stake presidency. They later moved to Aurora and then Parker, Colorado where he finished out his career. Along the way, Glen and Julie welcomed 9 children, who they raised with tons of love, high expectations, and faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Glen kept a gorgeous garden and orchard in Kennewick where he taught his children the value of hard work and the love of fresh cherries, raspberries, and "carn" on the cob. He tried to keep a garden in Colorado as well but got tired of feeding the deer. No matter how tired, he was always available to help his children with their math homework or share his wisdom while he walked and talked with them. He could fix everything and never had to call an appliance repairman. He served faithfully in the church and his neighbors, always shoveling the next door lady's sidewalk when it snowed as well as his own. He adored his wife, Julie, and left his children with a wonderful example of what a kind, faithful and loving husband should look like. While he enjoyed other hobbies through the years, he poured most of his time and attention on the family he and Julie created. In his last 6 years, he allowed us to learn to serve him in the way that he had always served us. His enduring faith through great tribulation is a legacy which will remain eternally with his posterity.
Glen is survived by his loving wife, Julie, his children, April (Glen) Garner, Kristen (Randy) Ivory, Marci (Paul) Burnside, Sterling (Lisa) Petersen, John (Kathleen) Petersen, Jeffrey (Nan) Petersen, Michelle (Blaine) Douglas, Brandon Petersen, and Keshia (Austin) Jolley; 39 grandchildren and 12 going on 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Jean Richer, Lareen Fox, Mary Kate Christensen and Karla McRenolds, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Gail Harrison, Beth Misrasi, and Audrey Hibler, and his brother Lester Petersen.
Funeral services will be in the Garland Tabernacle on Friday, January 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Internment will be in the Garland cemetery.
