Gwen Andrew Obituary

Gwen Holt Andrew 1951 ~ 2004  Gwen Holt Andrew, wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and beloved friend was taken to her eternal home January 25, 2004. She died at LDS Hospital due to cardiac arrest. Born on November 27, 1951 in Richfield, Utah to Sterling N. and Cleo Nielson Holt. Gwen graduated from Richfield High in 1970 and preceded to attain a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University in 1974. She met the love of her life Gregory R. Andrew and they were sealed in the Manti Temple for time and eternity on June 25, 1976. She taught 1st and 3rd grades at Syracuse and Adelaide Elementary Schools for three years until the birth of her first child in 1979. All of us who know Gwen have been greatly blessed by her love and service. In life she was truly an example of faith and optimism, ever determined to do the will of her Heavenly Father. She will always be known for her strong testimony and love of our Savior Jesus Christ. We were blessed by her many talents, including playing the piano, guitar, and directing the ward choir. Those talents and others were put to use through many facets of service in the LDS Church. She served at ward and stake levels in varying capacities within the Primary, Relief Society, Young Women's, Cub Scouts, and most recently in the Missionary Program of the Church. She was above all a tremendous wife and mother. Her dedication and support to her husband will ever be a reminder and an example of goodness and genuine love in marriage. Her endearing love for her children went beyond the call of motherhood. She will always be cherished for her help and guidance in their school, church, personal, and sporting activities. Our family gives thanks to the Riverside 2nd Ward for the years of love, friendship, and support that you gave to Gwen. We also express our gratitude to the entire 8th floor LDS Hospital Staff, especially for your personal attention to Gwen, who was greatly uplifted by so many of you. Gwen is survived by her husband Gregory Andrew, her mother Cleo Holt, her children Preston Andrew, Jerrett (Ilonka) Andrew, Lindsay Andrew, and Elder Jordan Andrew (Honduras), and her sisters Eloise (Alfred) Morris, Renae (Jan) Nielson, and Jan (Todd) Platt. She is preceded in death by her father Sterling Holt and her son Kendall Andrew. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 500 West Germania (5120 South). The viewing will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary at 4760 S. State St., and from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services on Friday. Brother Andrew & Family,

I know it's been many years since I was in the ward, but I just wanted to let you know how sorry I was to hear about Gwen. You both were a very positive influence on me when I was in your sunday school class. I remember having Gwen as a young women leader as well. She was a great example of goodness. Keep shopping at Harmons and I'll bet I see you again soon. Take care duckie, we're thinking of you and your sweet family.

Dear Greg and family,

We were so saddened to hear of Gwen's passing and our hearts are there with you in spirit and we'd love to be there in person if we could.

Your family has been such a blessing in our lives and Gwen was such an example to me of truly living the Gospel of Jesus Christ in her every thought and action.

My heart is gladdened that we have the gospel and know that she is wrapping her loving arms around Kendall and rejoicing with him, though she will be incredibly missed here. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!

Love, Bonnie and Bill Schroader, Cassie, Spencer, Kaleb and Joshua.

She has been a tremendous example to me. I will always remember all the times that she came with me to the temple, all of the times that we just sat and talked, all of the stories she shared, and the unfailing love that she had for each of you, not to mention the love and support she showed to me. You all have played a huge roll in my life over the past little while. You are such an amazing bunch and I thank you very sincerly for being who you are. I love you guys!
