J. Russell Hansen 1924 ~ 2008 MAGNA-Jay Russell Hansen (84) died Thursday, November 27, 2008 in Salt Lake City following a recent illness. He was born July 27, 1924 to Wilford Jay and Ina Marie Jensen Hansen, in Magna Utah. "JR", often called Russ, served in the Army Field Artillery in the European Theater during World Ward II, following which he enrolled at Utah State University. Shortly after graduation he married Marilyn Hendricks. They made their home in Magna, Utah, where they raised five children. Russ retired from work at the Kennecott Refinery, and later worked undercover security at ZCMI. He was elected to the first Magna Town Council. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served with his wife for nearly 10 years in the Jordan River Temple. Russ was devoted to his family. He spent many years helping and caring for aging parents, assisted children with projects, and took care of his wife of 57 years in her declining mental health. He loved to visit and to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lela Hansen Reid, his youngest son, Ronald Kent Hansen, and grandson, Clinton Wesley Millet. Russ is survived by his wife, Marilyn Hendricks Hansen, children Mark R. (Lise) Hansen of Boise, Idaho; Joyce (Mike) Tiebout of Miamisburg, Ohio; Peggy H. Millet of Murray, Utah; Diane (Fabian) Castro of Magna, Utah; grandchildren Adam (Becky) Millet of Spanish Fork, Utah; Jill, Kristin, and Karen Millet of Murray, Utah; Trent Millet (serving an LDS mission in Peru); Alicia Hansen of Boise, Idaho; Phillip and Melanie Castro of Magna Utah; Logan Tiebout, of Miamisburg, Ohio; and great-grandchildren Ethan and Saige Millet, of Spanish Fork, Utah. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at the Magna Stake Center, 8181 W. 3320 S. Friends and family may call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., and Monday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
