James Brock Obituary

1944 ~ 2013
Our dear friend and father, Jim "Grizz" Brock, passed away peacefully on Jan. 14, 2013 in Salt Lake City after a short illness.
He was born on Sept. 19, 1944 in San Luis Obispo, CA to John William and Ellen May Cairns Brock. Jim's early years were spent in Montrose, CO. The family moved to Moab, UT when Jim was 10 years old. He spent the rest of his youth in Moab where he met his wife Jean Gordon. They moved to Salt Lake City and were married in 1962. Jim was a respected member of the IBEW Local 354, was a Master Electrician with over 40 years of work experience and was the Superintendent for DeVoge Electric, Inc. Jim retired in 2011.
Jim was an avid reader, a fly fisherman and enjoyed camping and other outdoor activities with his family. We will miss his singing, dancing and his wry sense of humor.
He is survived by his sons, Steven, Clinton (Mary), Anthony (Heather); grandchildren, Caleb, Connor and Cassidy. Also by his mother and stepfather, Ellen and Ray Alger, his dear friend and companion, Sandy Garlick, by sisters, Katie (Murray) Hanway, and Bonnie (Ray) Walker, numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded death by his wife, Jean, his daughter-in-law, Debi, and father, Bill Brock.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 10600 S. 1950 East with a visitation from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Online condolences at www.larkincares.com

Jim will be missed by his Brother Wiremen. I remember he treated us Apprentices with great respect and was never too busy to show us a pipe bending formula or to turn down the amperage on my welder. I worked for Jim on many projects in Salt Lake and Huntington and miss his leadership!
