Janet Miller Obituary

Salt Lake City, UT-On Monday, March 9th, 2015 heaven opened up its arms to welcome home its brightest angel. Janet A. Miller, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born July 20th, 1930 in Salt Lake City.
Married to Ralph H. Miller in Elko, Nevada on November 16th, 1956.
Jan lived a long life filled with passion and adventure. Her greatest joy in life was raising her children and enjoying her 3 grandchildren. She sparked interest in and enthusiastically supported their efforts in music, art, academics, and sports.
Jan and her husband Ralph shared many interests, including tennis, travel, golf, dancing, gardening and entertaining. Ralph and Jan spent many a Friday night dancing at the Fort Douglas Country Club. They traveled extensively. Many family vacations were taken to California, where she loved walking on the beach, gathering seashells. Jan was an avid reader and music lover. She was an amazing cook, baker, and cookie decorator. Everyone had their favorite dish. Playing tennis was a great love for her. She could be found daily on the courts at the Salt Lake Swimming and Tennis Club for many years.
Jan was full of life to the end. In recent years, she attended Mt. Olympus Senior Center where she learned Tai Chi and how to play harmonica.
Before starting her family, Jan taught first grade in Salt Lake City and in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Westminster College with a Bachelors degree in education. Jan later served as a volunteer for the Westminster Women's Board. She was very gifted and playful with children. She kept a room full of toys in her home so she was always ready to entertain the children of visiting friends and family.
Survived by husband Ralph Miller, son Todd Miller (Deb), son Bart Miller (Debbie), daughter Holly Miller (P.R. Banks), brother Howard Mitchell (Benita), grandchildren Parker Miller, Chris Puder, Claire Miller and Elise Miller.
Janet brought joy, love and kindness to all who knew her. She was smart, witty, generous, spunky and tenacious. The world was a better place because of her. She will forever be our guiding star.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 21st from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Private family urn burial will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City.

My darling mother-in-law. Janet you were always so loving and kind to me, always full of smiles and fun things to talk about. You raised such a wonderful son without whom my life would not be the same. Heaven has it's newest Angel. I will miss you dearly.

Dear Uncle Ralph, Todd, Bart, Holly, and your families, and to Jan's extended family,
I was sorry to hear of Aunt Jan's passing. Loving thoughts and prayers are with you. I have happy childhood memories of Aunt Jan's bright smile, her joyful personality, and her loving kindness to my parents' (Marj and Byron's) family. Wishing you strength for the sorrow, and comfort in good memories, and in the love and support of your families and friends.

My happy mom!
