Jared Wakefield Obituary

Jared Wakefield
1991 ~ 2014
Our dear Jared David Wakefield was wrapped in the loving arms of God and taken home on Thursday, June 5, 2014. Although his life spanned just 22 years, he filled every minute of it here joyfully lifting and influencing countless people before moving on to the eternities.
Jared was brought into this world on August 27, 1991, by a brave young woman in Silver Spring, Maryland. There he was adopted by Robert and Clydie Wonnacott Wakefield, joining his brother, Lance, for his journey through life. The family relocated to Orem, Utah until 2001, and then moved to Laie, Hawaii, where Jared joined the Laie Children's Choir that performed in France and England. He returned to Orem in 2005 and graduated from Mountain View High School in 2010. Since then, Jared has attended Snow College and Utah Valley University and worked at Domino's Pizza in Orem, including as assistant manager.
Jared's life was a constant celebration of artistry and joy, and he was a natural innovator. If anything ever needed creation or repair Jared could do it. In high school and college he served as technical specialist for numerous concerts and plays; but, when Seussical the Musical was performed at Snow, Jared auditioned for his first acting part ever, the Mayor of Whoville, and surprised everyone with his beautiful tenor voice-which landed him the role. But even more important was Jared's endless supply of service with a smile. When his parents requested their seemingly daily help with technology, he was always there with his infinite patience and warmth. Helping others always seemed to come first, even when inconvenient for him. For example, if roommates had trouble paying rent, he would pay it even if it put his own funds in jeopardy. And every time he said good-bye to someone, whether family or friends, he told them he loved them.
One of Jared's great blessings in life was to be reconnected last autumn to his mother who gave him life, Maria Ford Rivera, and her husband, Joshua Rivera, and his four brothers, Zach, Jeff, Jakob, and Chris. Since that wonderful reunion, Jared, Maria and her family created great bonds in many ways. We are forever grateful for Maria's courage and sacrifice in bringing Jared into our lives, and for the Rivera family for giving Jared yet more family to love.
Jared is survived by his parents, Rob and Clydie Wakefield; his brother, Lance; his niece, Scout; a grandfather, Melvin Wakefield; too many other relatives to count, and a huge parade of friends.
Jared's family wishes to thank the medical practitioners at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center ICU and other medical facilities for their valiant efforts to save Jared over his final two days.
Two viewings for Jared will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the LDS Orem Cherry Hill 7th Ward chapel, 150 East 2000 South in Orem. A funeral will follow the second viewing at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, in the same building. Guests are invited to help celebrate Jared's life by bringing any photos they have of Jared to the viewings or the funeral.

I was Jared's choral director when he was a part of the Ko'olauloa Children's Chorus in Hawaii. He travelled with us to England and France and was such a GOOD PERSON. I have great memories of him in choir and can still see him singing his heart out in choir. He was by far the kindest person one could ever know. We will miss you but look forward to seeing you again someday! Thank you Jared for being able to know you in this life. Love and Aloha from Esther Macy and the Ko'olauloa Children's Chorus!

We are so sorry for your loss. We found out about this tragedy only last night, or we would have been able to be there in person to support you in the funeral. We send our love and hope that you will find comfort in the days ahead. Love, Patrice and Jerry Kimball and family.

I never got to know Jared very well, but we played clarinet together and had a great time doing so. He was always so kind and thoughtful even when he didn't need to be. He cared about people and let them know it.
