Joan Maw Obituary

Joan Gerber Maw

1932 ~ 2022

Our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away February 11, 2022. She was born on October 27, 1932, in San Mateo, CA to John and Mary Horrocks Gerber. She resided in Burlingame, CA and moved to American Fork, UT where she lived during her teenage years.

She married her sweetheart H. Warren Maw October 13, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. They loved the Lord, Jesus Christ and were faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were always together serving others.

Joan truly loved everyone. She loved to make memories and was always planning the next family gathering. Her greatest love was her family including Warren-deceased, her 5 children Kathy (Craig-deceased), Judy-deceased, Rick (Nena), Karen (Eric), Sharon (Scott), 19 grandchildren, and 59 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the East Mill Creek North Stake Center, 3408 So. Celeste Way, SLC at 11:00 am. Friends may call from 9:00-10:45 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your preferred charity.

My deepest condolence to your family.
Im from the Philippines where they served mission in Batangas.
She is such a wonderful person.
She never failed sending us Christmas card each year at the Philippines, and each year being here in Utah.
I told her Iam going to visit her after Christmas. And found just now she passed.
She is such a beautiful and wonderful person.

Dear Kathy, Rick, Karen and Sharon and families: Thank you so much for being such great neighbors while we were growing up. We loved and admired your Dad and Mom and yourselves. We were so fortunate to have grown up with such wonderful neighbors! I wanted to go to the funeral so much but I strained my back a few days ago trying out some new exercise equipment and am just slowly getting back to normal mobility. We are so thankful that you had your mother's service online so that we could watch it! We can't imagine what a wonderful reunion your mother is now experiencing with the Savior and your Dad and my folks-- who also loved your family so much! We really enjoyed your beautiful talks and the memories you shared about your Mom and Dad-- and the beautiful music and singing! Thank goodness for a faith that still believes in (and inspires) miracles! We can all look forward with hope still because of our belief in the miraculous future which the Lord has prepared for us! Best wishes, Reid & Nola Swenson

To all you dear friends in the Maw family, please accept my deep sympathy for the passing of your mother. She is a grand lady. always smiling and so generous with her friendship. She had a delightful sense of humor and was a delight to be with. I have many fond memories of you children growing up at the same time as our children in the 7th ward. Love to one and all of you, Pat Lake

Aunt Joan,

You are a lady of service, fun, compassion, and love. I'm so glad you were and are a part of my life. Memories..."Adventures in Moving", living at your house, "I bet you don't know where we are", Dominoes and laughing, family reunions, Thanksgiving dinners, etc. I love you!

How we loved your Dad and your angel Mom! Doug and I had such a special connection and friendship with them when we lived in the East Millcreek 7th Ward. They were wonderful examples to us of kindness, compassion and generosity. Please accept my love and prayers to all of you.

My heart is truly saddened of the passing of Joan. She and my mother were dear friends, and always loved to hear of their sweet memories from their childhood. Your mother has been so supportive of my mother´s passing, I will be forever grateful to her for their love for one another, and for the friendship and love I´ve been blessed with these many years! She was an amazing lady! Truly sorry for your loss, but may you all be comforted by our Savior´s love, and the knowledge that you all will be with your mom, dad and all others who have gone before! Thoughts and prayers sincerely!
