John Fawcett Obituary

1944 ~ 2018
John Harold Fawcett passed away peacefully from cancer in Salt Lake City Sunday February 4th. John was born on March 2, 1944 in Preston, England to the late Harry and Margaret Fawcett. While living in England, John's parents joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1951. Their conversion led them to immigrate to the USA and settle in Salt Lake City a short time later. John was blessed to return to Europe in 1963 when called to serve a 2-year LDS mission in Ireland under the leadership of Stephen R. Covey. He later fulfilled a life-long dream of serving as a senior missionary in the London, England temple for 2 years.
John married Ella VanTielen, a blond Dutch girl, on August 16, 1968 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Ella passed away in 2007 after a long struggle with cancer. This left John with many years of trying to fill a void...which has now been filled. John was a peaceful, unhurried person who enjoyed working in his yard and spending hours around his beloved fish pond. He had a special place in his heart for the many pets he had over his lifetime. He also loved motorcycles and Land Cruisers and used these modes of transportation to visit National Parks and enjoy nature. John was gifted and worked with computers throughout his life. He put his knowledge to good use while serving countless hours in various callings in the LDS church. Despite John's desire for peaceful surroundings and his inability to "hurry" or "be rushed" he brought seven children into the world for whom he spent his life working long hours to provide for.
He is survived by his children and their spouses; Michael and Allison Fawcett of Cheyenne, WY; Jeffrey and Rachelle Fawcett of Riverside, CA; Jennifer and Olivier Lesage of Paris, France; Christopher and Tina Fawcett of Tucson, AZ; Cynthia Lisonbee of Cottonwood Heights; Melissa Freshman of Salt Lake City, UT; Stephen and Heidi Fawcett of Columbus, OH. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and counting, many of whom he proudly baptized and confirmed as members of the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter- Day Saints. He is also survived by his younger brother and only sibling Eric Fawcett and many loving in-laws.
Services will be held Saturday February 10th at 11:00 am at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S. SLC with a viewing 1hour prior. Interment also at Larkin Sunset Lawn. For condolences, please visit www.LarkinCares.com.

I just came across this.
I've been looking for my old seminary teacher Brother Fawcett, I don't know if he's related or not to John.
My condolences to the family.

John always had a smile on his face, he never complained. I knew John when he and I worked at Nielsen & Senior. He was always so supportive and kind to everyone.

Dear Michael, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Christopher, Cynthia, Melissa, and Stephen,
We want to send our love to all of you. John and Ella were always such wonderful role models for us... we learned so much from them. Your void will be great in missing your kind, gentle, faithful, fun-loving, amazing and wonderful parents. They lived to bring you life and joy. They were awesome and exceptional neighbors and dear friends. We will rejoice at the opportunity to see them again. We will keep all of you in our hearts and prayers. ~ Sincerely, Delena, Dustin and DeLores,

Dear Fawcett Family,
I have many, many fond memories of John, and, of course Ella. He is reliable but also spontaneous and funny with a very dry humor. Most of all he has a wonderful, kind spirit. His absolute lack of guile or judgment is always inspiring . A real saint! I am glad for his reunion now and his happy circumstances, no doubt. I regret that I cannot attend the services, and I am less for it. My condolences to his fine family.

Dear Fawcett family,

Even though your father/brother had not been well for a while, we didn't realize that the remainder of his time on earth would be this short.
We have always loved John for his kindness and his example of what it means to be a good disciple of our Savior.
He was an interesting "chap" too. He had great knowledge of (Church)history and he had some really fun hobbies! He would post pictures online, when he found out his turtle(s) were "with child" and flat out rejoiced, when he found its eggs.
We will miss our dear brother-in-law. He was an amazing man!
May all of you be comforted by knowing the he is now with Ella and his loved ones who went before him. God bless you all with His peace and His love.

Art and Charlotte Van Tielen.

In Matthew 14:3-10, it talks about when Herod had a birthday party, he made a vow to his wife that he would give to her anything she desired. Then, she asked for John the Baptists head. Although Herod may not have wanted to do this, seeing as how he was grieving in verse 9, Herod did it anyway because he made a promise.
