1953 ~ 2025
Boise, Idaho-Joyce Williamsen Hunter peacefully passed away in her home on October 27, 2025. Her family was by her side as she succumbed to a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. Joyce was born on January 6, 1953 in Ogden, Utah to L. Clair Williamsen and Yvonne Sandberg. She was the third of four children, growing up in Ogden and later as a teenager in
Bountiful, Utah. Early on, Joyce displayed both skill and interest in athletic and outdoor activities. She fondly recounted her many experiences helping her grandfather train and show his team of Shetland ponies. She was a competitive member of many youth sports teams. After graduating from Bountiful High School in 1971, Joyce attended the University of Utah where for three seasons she was a starting guard for the women's basketball team. She graduated in June 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. Joyce interrupted her education in July 1975 to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Oslo, Norway. She made life-long friends while there and touched many lives. On December 27, 1979, Joyce married Gerald M. Hunter in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and then settled in Centerville, Utah to begin their family. The family subsequently moved to
Boise, Idaho where Joyce has lived for the past 38 years. She was a devoted mother of three children who selflessly and tirelessly supported and encouraged her children's talents and spirit. She was a beloved friend and companion for each of her children. Continuing to pursue her passion in physical and nutritional fitness, Joyce graduated from Boise State University in 1995 with a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology. Professionally, she enjoyed working with many and varied clients to improve their personal health and fitness. Joyce also played competitive tennis for many years traveling throughout the intermountain west for tournaments. Joyce is survived by her husband, Gerald; a daughter, Jennie Hunter; two sons, Justin and David Hunter; a sister, Barbara Williamsen Collins; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her older brother and sister, Leland Williamsen and Esther Anderton. Joyce will be remembered for many things, including her devotion and support of her children, her adventurous spirit, and a sense of humor that often surprised her friends and family. Joyce passed away knowing her family dearly loved her and felt greatly blessed by her life. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dani Sandoval, Joyce's caregiver, who helped assist and enrich Joyce's life for the last four plus years, and who was with the family and Joyce until her passing. Friends and loved ones are invited to a viewing and to greet the family on November 2 between 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah St, Boise Idaho. On November 8, services to be held in Bountiful Utah include a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 Lakeview Drive, followed by graveside services at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life and luncheon for family and friends will occur immediately following the graveside services (noon) at the Casa Blanca reception center, 197 E 500 South, Bountiful Utah.
