Kathleen Maxfield Obituary

Kathleen Bentley Maxfield

1933-2023

Kathleen Bentley Maxfield passed away at her home on January 28, 2023

Kathe was born June 8, 1933 in El Paso, Texas to Joseph T. Bentley and Kathleen Bench. She was the second of six children. She is survived by two brothers, Joseph and Marion Bentley. She spent her younger years in the Holladay area and had many fond memories of that time. Her family moved frequently during her teen years. She lived in Roosevelt, Utah and Mexico City, Mexico among other places. She met her future husband Conrad Maxfield when she played in the Olympus Jr High School Orchestra. This was the beginning of a friendship which continued throughout her teen years, culminating in a formal courtship and later engagement.

They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 1, 1953. Together they raised nine children. Family was one of the most important things in Kathe's life. She was a full-time mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Kathe also loved to shop. It didn't matter if it was a yummy treat, good book, holiday t-shirt, jammies or decorations, she was always looking for that special something she could give to her loved ones and friends. Many of her children and grandchildren have been the recipients of her loving gifts. She always had a granola bar or treat in her purse which she gave out to the doctor, hair dresser, store clerk or anyone else she ran into.

Kathe was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served two missions for the church with her husband Conrad, in the West Indies Mission and the West Virginia Charleston Mission. She also served in the office of the Temple Square Mission. Kathe had a lifelong love of learning. She read daily, had daily personal scripture study, and took college courses and scripture classes throughout her life.

Service was also important to Kathe. She held many callings in the LDS Church, which she performed faithfully. Boy Scouts of America awarded her the Silver Beaver Award for her years of dedicated service. She loved music and was a participant of the ward choir. Kathe was always looking for ways to serve and shared many meals with those in her community.

Con and Kathe enjoyed the outdoors. Jeeping, hiking, camping and boating (especially in Southern Utah and Lake Powell) was a big part of their lives while raising their family. Kathe participated in girl's camp, pioneer trek and many other outdoor activities with her children. As their children grew more independent, they also enjoyed traveling with friends and family to destinations such as Israel, South America, Hawaii, Europe etc.

Kathe Maxfield is preceded in death by her husband Conrad Grant Maxfield. She is survived by her children Gary (SuzAnne) Maxfield, Kent (Tina) Maxfield, Ruth (Mark) Kleckner, John (Pam) Maxfield, Maureen (Steve) McDonald, Andrew (Christin) Maxfield, Brien (Nikki) Maxfield, Kathryn (Jonathan) Stapley, and one other daughter, thirty-one grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren.

Her funeral services will be Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Willow Creek Ward Building (2115 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84093) with a visitation from 9:30-10:30 am. There is also a viewing on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm at Cannon Mortuary (2460 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121).

We will forever cherish the time we had with Kathe. She taught us so much about charity, hope, faith, service and love by her example. Her smile always reflected the purity of her soul. She loved and lived to serve others. She ministered to others by her example every day. She contributed her time and her talents to ease other's burdens and to lighten their loads. She was so wise and so wonderful. She served every day and shared her beautiful smile and her quick sense of humor with everyone. We will miss her more than we can ever express. She was a bright light in this sometimes dreary world. Kathe definitely made a difference during her time on Earth. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her beloved family. Thank you so much for sharing her with us.
