Larry Brinkerhoff Obituary

Larry J. Brinkerhoff

1949-2021

Salt Lake City, UT—Larry J. Brinkerhoff, 72, died July 15, 2021 at the William E. Christoffersen Veterans Home due to complications from diabetes. He was truly inspirational in his attitude while living with diabetes. He never complained and continued in good spirits even after both legs were amputated below the knee, slowing him down. Larry was born January 11, 1949 in Albuquerque, N.M. to J.Darwin Brinkerhoff and Mary Marchant Brinkerhoff. He was the youngest of three children.

Larry served in the Army and later made his career in the HVAC industry in Salt Lake City. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, rock crawling in his Jeep, target shooting, and watching animals on the camera at his cabin. Larry even braved sky diving on his 50th birthday. He loved fireworks and often put on spectacular shows, sometimes endangering those around him. He preferred to do everything himself, which included reloading his own bullets.

Larry was very good with his hands and could build or fix anything. He was often found helping family, friends, and neighbors with various projects. He loved sharing his mechanical knowledge and many were able to learn from his wisdom and expertise. Larry had a witty and sarcastic sense of humor. He had the best laugh and during his last few years we shared lots of laughs, mostly at his expense. He adored dogs and they never left his side. Free from his body, he is now truly "just peachy". He will be missed.

Larry is survived by his brother Jim(Delilah) Brinkerhoff and sister Suzanne Brinkerhoff. His 1st wife Kjerstine Hodder and children Krehl(Mike) Todd, Keri(Mike) Brown, John(Barbara) Brinkerhoff, as well as Larry's wife of 21 years Patricia Hansen Brinkerhoff, son Josh VanDuren, and stepchildren Mike VanDuren, Chris VanDuren(proceeded him in death), Tim(Allison) VanDuren, Jeremy VanDuren, Spencer VanDuren, Katie(Clint) Kennedy, Jodi(Dee) Vickery, and a large extended family that respected and loved him dearly.

Larry's ashes will be buried at the family cabin. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Diabetes Association. Memories and condolences can be emailed to [email protected].

Condolences to Larry´s family. It´s been many years since we shared life´s experiences but the memories remain! Especially I remember how sweet he was with my young boys when Kris and I swapped childcare the days we worked our respective jobs!
I too, admire how Larry lived with the challenges of diabetes.
