Lavina Ireta Harper
Lavina Ireta Harper, aged 96, of Provo, Utah passed away on September 20, 2021. Lavina was born 18 Oct 1924 in Pikeville (Nahunta), North Carolina to William Walter Harper and Alma Ishmael Aycock . She attended East North Carolina Teacher's College where she received her B.A. degree in Home Economics and Social Science. She taught High School in North Carolina and Granite School District in Utah for 16 years. She received her M.S. degree in Family Life at Utah State University and taught Family Living at Church College of Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii for over 25 years. She served a
mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines.
Lavina was cherished by all who knew her (especially her nieces and nephews and their spouses). She lived a long and full life as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived her life in service to others. She loved to travel. Family and many visitors to her home enjoyed hearing about her world travels to India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Polynesian Islands, Canada, South America, Mexico and many others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother William Walter Harper Jr. and her sisters Neva H. Smith, Wilma H. Hirschmann, Vivian H. Pope, nephew Roger W. Smith, and nieces Shirley S. Olson and Wanda S. Wood. Lavina is survived by her sister Lettie H. Willmore. She is also survived by devoted nieces and nephews: Steven G. Smith, Wilma S. Fullmer, Pamela S. Werner, Wendell R. Smith, Becky S. Johnson, Barbara S. Qadri, David M. Smith, Bryan D. Smith, Eric Hirschmann, Paula H. Carter, Clive Arden Pope, ViAnn P. Prestwich, Cole Pope, Donna Pope, Clark Pope, Verl Pope, Ryle Pope, Ron Willmore, Reed Willmore, Ryan Willmore, Rhett Willmore, Regan Willmore, Rachel Willmore, and Ruth Willmore.
A special thanks to her niece, Wilma S. Fullmer who so lovingly cared for her in the latter years of her life. Thanks also to her nephew Eric Hirschmann and his wife, Karna, her beloved grand-nephew Connor Sugrue, nephew Steven Smith and her nurses Sarah Vaitohi and Donna Holt.
Funeral Services will be held on September 29, 2021 at 12:00 (noon) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3511 N 180 E, Provo, Utah. A viewing will precede the funeral at 11:00-11:45 am. A graveside memorial will be at the Thomas Ruffin Aycock Cemetery in Nahunta (Pikeville), North Carolina later in the week.
