Lawrence Mansell Obituary

1936 ~ 2017
Lawrence Vernon Mansell (Uncle Larry) was born to Lawrence William Mansell and Esther Louella Hadlock on December 11, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Larry passed away on Sunday, February 19 at the Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah after a courageous yearlong battle with kidney failure.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith Carlson Mansell, and his children, Douglas, Lane (Molly), Loren (Stacey), and Maralee Miller (Mark). He left thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy.
Larry and Judy were married in the Manti temple on August 21, 1962. Larry received a bachelors degree from the University of Utah and graduated from Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri at the top of his class. He loved being a dentist and and was proud to be the dentist for the University of Utah Athletic Department for 25 years.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a missionary in the Australia Sydney Mission. He was Scout Master, Explorer Leader, Bishopric member, High Councilor, and temple worker. He found great joy serving in the Bountiful, Utah temple for seven years.
His hobbies included fishing, golfing, raising rabbits, pigeon keeping and archery. He leaves a tremendous legacy in archery. Hundreds of children have fond memories learning how to shoot a bow and arrow from Uncle Larry. He served on the Kaysville/Fruit Heights Civic Committee with his wife. You could always find him at one of his grandchildren's games or performances cheering them on.
Although Larry endured many health challenges, he always had a big smile and rarely complained. In 1998, Larry received a heart transplant in Dallas, Texas. His positive attitude and love of life is a wonderful example. His family was blessed to have him for 19 more years. Everyone who knew Larry loved him. He was a generous man and a friend to all.
Our family is grateful for the compassionate caregivers at Fairfield Village and the loving nurses and doctors at Lakeview Hospital. We are thankful for the skilled transplant surgeon, Dr. Richard Bowman, and his heart donor. We are grateful for the heart transplant team at IMC for taking such good care of him. Each day with Larry was a gift.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Fruit Heights Stake Center on 170 N Mountain Rd, Fruit Heights, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday, February 24, at the Fruit Heights Stake Center from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery.

I have fond memories from back in time in the old days ------East mill creek. He was our scoutmaster and he was incredible. I remember going to his house once to pass off a merit badge and also sitting in his dental chair a few times. He had such a wonderful smile and he always seemed happy. And I'll always remember his jeep.

What a wonderful Dentist, Mentor, Friend!!!I don't think that I ever once seen Doc without a smile on his face! He always had a kind word, wonderful advice, and treated me like his own, never like a patient. Money was never a concern, only taking care of everyone's smile!I think he kept everyone smiling so that he could show off his dental work! And my Mother Loved him deeply like a Brother! And nobody has to explain him being a fighter!Heavens Smiles just got a whole bunch Whiter!! There won't be a single cavity in Heaven now. God Bless the Mansell family!! I went through a troubled period in my life, and he would always open his doors to me and plant positive seeds of advice and wisdom, that would later help change me as a person, a man, and a Father . I am so Blessed to have crossed paths with this Beautiful Man.RIP!! John Cornish Family

Uncle Larry, I can still hear your voice and laughter in my mind. I hope it never fades. You are one of the best examples I know of finding joy in the simple things, and in exuding love that everyone around you can feel. You have left me with so many great memories. I still remember as a kid when you let me take some of your pigeons home, to let go, and then you called me to tell me they had made it back. And, after my checkup for my mission, you wrote on my papers, these teeth will work best in New Zealand. You are a class act, like no other. I love you Uncle. I am going to miss you terribly. I hope you will join me once in a while when I am fishing or doing something you like. And by the way, I still want a bow and arrow lesson. I hope you are good for it. Till we meet again.

Dr Mansell was my dentist growing up. I remember being so excited to go to the dentist because he was so nice and he would let me pick out a toy.
So sad to hear of his passing. Sending love to all of his family.

Dear Judy and Family,

We were so saddened when we learned of the passing of our dear friend Larry. He has been such a wonderful friend and example to us. I will always remember his red Ute blazer which he proudly wore to church after each Ute win over BYU along with a big smile. He encouraged me when I was dealing with prostrate cancer, one of the many challenges he had to deal with himself. We wish we could be to his services, but circumstances do not permit us to travel at present.

May the Lord's loving arms embrace you and comfort you.
Love, Bob and Susan Bird

So sorry for the passing of Larry, he was one in a million. I was grateful to have been your neighbor for many years while our children were growing up. I appreciated the time he spent with my boys, the pigeons, rabbits and all of the fun things he taught them. Peace to you Judy and your children and grandchildren. At these times how grateful we are for the gospel and the knowledge we have that this is a bridge we all must cross so we can join with family who have made that journey. Love to you all.
