Salt Lake City, UT - Ljubica "Buba" Milan Roth (Nesovic) passed away on November 12, 2025.
Buba was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Her happiest times in childhood were summers spent swimming in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Cavtat, Croatia, where she lived with her grandparents. Buba was glamorous, cosmopolitan, cheerful, and strong willed.
Buba loved world travel. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and the states of the former Soviet Union, spent a year in China, as well as trips to Chile, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Mongolia, and Alaska. She lived in the US, Serbia, Egypt, Russia, and Germany. Buba earned undergraduate and masters degrees in geography and demography from the University of Belgrade.
After moving to Utah, Buba became a community organizer for refugees. She started as an informal translator and friend-on-call for families facing challenges with housing, doctor's appointments, and schooling. As founder of the Utah Peace Institute and organizer of the Young Refugees of Utah 4 World Peace, she helped young people advocating for peace. Buba had big dreams, and loved to bring people together. Her work as a peace advocate was honored by the United Nations.
She devoted the last decade of her life as a caregiver to her husband of 36 years, Peter. She loved watching movies and celebrating holidays together.
Buba is survived by her children Anna (Alex) and Barbara, and by Martin (Katie) and Stephanie (Jeremy). She was predeceased by her husband Peter, father Milan, mother Zora, and sister Mira.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to charities that support refugees or gastric cancer.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 11:00AM at Holy Trinity Cathedral, in Salt Lake City, UT (279 S 300 W), followed by a remembrance reception at the church hall from 11:30AM-12:15PM. Burial will be at City View Mortuary in Salt Lake City.

To Buba´s family.
I wanted to share my deepest condolences. Your mom was truly special - always polite, thoughtful, and ready to serve others with a full heart. Meeting her left a lasting impression on me, and I feel honored to have known her. I hope you can find comfort in the incredible legacy she leaves behind and in the knowledge that you were blessed with a wonderful mother and a truly extraordinary person. Please know that I am thinking of you during this difficult time.

Warm wishes to Buba´s family. I know how hard she worked to advocate for the good of all people, refugees in particular. She was very active with Salt Lake City when I worked there. She was a respected advocate.
