Louis Owen Obituary

1923 ~ 2013
Louis W. Owen passed away peacefully on February 15, 2013.
Lou was born December 30, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Louis Whitney Owen and Myrtes Wetzel Owen and was delivered at the family home in the Avenues area of Salt Lake. Lou grew up in Sugarhouse and proudly attended South High School in Salt Lake, class of 1942. Lou attended the University of Utah for two years.
Lou served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service Lou was employed by the Veterans Administration where he worked for 30 years until his first retirement. While working at the V.A. Lou met Marjorie Brain and they were married in 1954. Their marriage was sealed in the Jordan River Temple in 2008. They were happily married for 59 years, living in Sugarhouse and Holladay. Lou and Margie held annual neighborhood "Street Band Parties" while in Sugarhouse for their neighbors, family, and friends.
After he retired from the V.A. Lou spent the next ten years as a Travel Agent. He had a life long love for seeing the world. He and Marjorie traveled to 18 different countries. Lou and Marjorie sailed on the QE2, fulfilling a long standing desire to sail on one of the Cunard Lines "Queen's".
Lou generously gave of his time volunteering at the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce at the Salt Palace information office. He was an avid patron of the Utah Symphony. He was generous to many charities.
Lou will always be remembered for being a gentleman, soft spoken, kind, generous, dependable, helpful, and a very classy dresser. Lou rarely left home for anything without a suit or coat and tie. Lou drove only Buick Automobiles.
Lou is survived by close niece's and nephew's: Ida Jean Brown, John Riley, Mary Lou Nowels, Rebecca Klekas and half-brother, Robert Owen.
Preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Marilyn Owen Clough.
A brief service will be held on Wednesday February 20, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Holladay 28th Ward, located at 2625 East Milo Way (4910 South) Holladay, UT, where a visitation will be held from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Please leave online condolences for the family at www.larkinmortuary.com.
