Marie Margetts Delgado

Marie Margetts Delgado 1940 ~ 2007 Marie Margetts Delgado died October 13, 2007, after a hard fought battle with leukemia.Marie was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, 1940, to Harold Margetts and Agnes Rogers. She descended from a prominent pioneer family best known for introducing the theater to the Intermountain West. Marie's life reflected her family's love of the arts. Throughout her life, she filled her home with traditional food, music, and handicrafts. After graduating from East High School in 1958 and the University of Utah in 1962, she moved to Washington DC to join the National Security Agency. It was in the service of her country where she met David R. Delgado of Los Angeles, California. The couple courted for two years and married in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After leaving government service, David worked in the school system in Washington and California, while Marie raised their growing family. Marie loved children and became an instructional aide after the family settled in Salinas, California. Marie also loved serving in her church and worked with both English and Spanish-speaking congregations. Her church service also allowed her to teach music to dozens of children over the years. Later in life, Marie decided on a career change and went to work for the Monterey County Sheriff's Department. She enjoyed the challenges of working in law enforcement and remained employed until her death. Her family will miss her cooking, singing, smiles, advice, humor, piano playing, stories, and hugs. The funeral was held October 20th in Salinas, California, and the interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City, 11 a.m. Wednesday October 24th. Marie is survived by her husband, David; their four daughters, Angela Delgado (Lee) Johnson of Athens, Georgia, Laura Delgado (Sang) Kim of Yuba City, California, Monica Delgado (Michael) Van Wagenen of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Alicia (Ryan) Cota of Salinas; 10 grandchildren; and brother, David Margetts of Provo, Utah. She is preceded in death by her parents; and granddaughter, Ariana.
