Meryl Avery Obituary

Meryl Avery 5/2/22 ~ 6/20/03  Meryl Avery passed away June 20, 2003 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. She was a force for good and an enduring example of compassion throughout her life. Meryl was born May 2, 1922 in Custer, SD. Her mother died shortly after she was born and was reared by her older sister, Clarice, in Shawmut, MT on a cattle ranch. She loved horses and the adventures of a small town. She attended a one room school where she did well and eventually received her teaching degree. While attending Denver University for an advanced teaching certificate, she met and married Marvin Avery. Theirs was a dedicated marriage of 55 years. They have two children, Janie McKnight (Mike) and Steve Avery (Marilyn). They have six grandchildren, Nathan, Cassie, Steph-anie, Matthew, Bill and Mark. Meryl dedicated her life to being a loving wife and mother. She taught her children the value of family, friends, learning, and service. Meryl joined the LDS church and was a faithful member and leader who touched many lives. She befriended all around her and was constantly serving those who were alone or needy. Her playful sense of humor lifted many spirits. Even as Alzheimer's stole her memories, she maintained a childlike sweetness that brightened those around her. Services will be Tues. June 24, 1 p.m. Jenkins Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10550 S), where family and friends may call 12-12:50 p.m. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
