Oliver Daines Obituary

1928 ~ 2015
Oliver Donald Daines passed peacefully from this life into his Heavenly Father's arms on February 2, 2015.
Donald was born on September 21, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Oliver James Daines and Lila Mae Barfuss. He grew up in the Logan, Utah area, then moved with his family to Firth, Idaho where he grew to adulthood. After graduating from Firth High School, he attended Utah State Agricultural College.
He served a 2-year mission for the LDS church, serving in the Southern States mission, after which he returned to USAC to finish his degree in Civil Engineering.
He met Rachel F. Christensen in Idaho at a church dance. They were married on July 30, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Shortly after their marriage, Donald was deployed to Korea to serve as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force.
After returning from Korea, Donald and Rachel lived for a brief time in Canoga Park, CA, and then settled in Brigham City, Utah when he was hired by Thiokol Chemical Corp. He was later hired by Hill Air Force Base as an aerospace engineer.
Donald returned to USU in 1970 and graduated with a Masters of Manufacturing Engineering in 1971.
Donald faithfully served in many Church callings, including Counselor in a bishopric, High Counselor, and Bishop of the Brigham City 10th Ward. He loved to work in his garden, providing many delicious fruits and vegetables to family and friends. He loved to have his family around him, and loved his children and grandchildren. He also built a family cabin in Island Park, ID, that his family enjoyed for many years.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel, his parents, his brothers, Elray and Weldon, and his sister, LuJuana. He is survived by his four children, Linda (Kimball) Krantz of Kaysville, UT, Deborah (Craig) Brown of Fountain Valley, CA, Clifford (Julie) Daines of Salisbury, NC, and Cheryl (Neil) Brown of Centerville, UT, as well as 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Jay, Vaughn and Norman, and his sister, Val.
We express special thanks to the staff at Chancellor Gardens, particularly to Sallie Huntington, Envision Hospice, and Dee Evans for their tender care. Donald will be greatly missed by his family, but left behind a legacy of faith and love.
