Paul Christofferson Obituary

April 1, 1920 ~ April 22, 2014
Paul Vickery Christofferson passed away April 22, 2014, in Draper, Utah, surrounded by members of his family. Paul was born April 1, 1920, in Lehi, Utah, the fourth child and first son of Alexander DeWitt and Louisa Vickery Christofferson.
Paul was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern Sates of the US, the same mission in which his father had labored. He also served his country in the Veterinary Corps of the U. S. Army in World War II, in the Burma and China theatre. As the first member of his family to attend college, he attended Utah State University, Brigham Young University and Washington State University, before receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University. While at BYU, Paul met Leah Jeanne Swenson, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple January 24, 1944. A former State Veterinarian for Utah and a founding member of the American College of Veterinary Toxicology, Paul spent the bulk of his career leading corporate animal medical pharmaceutical development and licensure efforts. He also enjoyed his years in private veterinary practice in Utah and Millard Counties. Paul and Jeanne lived in Utah, New Jersey, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, and California at various times in their lives, raising five sons Paul served as bishop and high councilor in several wards and stakes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the years.
Paul was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Jeanne. He is survived by his brother Leo (Betty), his sons D. Todd (Kathy), Gregory (MarJane), Timothy (Julie), Wade (Rebecca) and Tom (Clarke), as well as 18 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. Special care was given to Paul and Jeanne in the last years of their lives by Karen Bills, whom they considered as a daughter.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Derek Boam, Paul and Jeanne's personal physical and beloved friend, as well as the talented and caring staffs of Legacy House and Assisted Living of Draper.

Not sure what to say?

I had the great pleasure of working with Dr. Paul and his sister, Eva in the preparation of some horse medication in the '90's. Never will forget his wry smile and wit as he related some great stories and jokes. Truly a "man for all seasons",generous, kind, tolerant, loving. And of course a pretty fast driver rodding around in his old blue truck. Hope to see ya again sometime Doc. Carol Allred

Our family lived in the North Shore 2nd Ward at the same time as the Christoffersons in the mid-60's, and Paul taught our teen-age class in Sunday School. I remember him as a wonderful, caring teacher who showed us all how the Gospel could bless our lives in important, practical ways. I always appreciated his influence on me. Condolences and best wishes to your family.

I cherish my association with Bshp. and Jeanne Christofferson. He exemplified patience, love for his neighbor and the importance of delegation. My world, and the world around him, is a better place because of him. I loved his sincere testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My best to each of the members of the family through this time of sorrow.
