Peggy Becker Obituary

Peggy Lou Becker

1930 - 2021

Provo, Utah - Peggy was born September 11, 1930 in Provo, Utah to Francis and Emma Elizabeth Southerland Couch. Due to unfortunate circumstances, she and her 5 siblings were either put in foster homes or adopted. In Peggy's case, she was lovingly adopted by Ernest Henry and Edna Olsen Cullum from Lawrence, Utah. She was sealed to them in the Manti Temple April 14, 1938. Tragically, her father was killed in the Hiawatha mine February 14, 1944, necessitating the sale of their farm. She and her mother moved to Roy, Utah where Edna found employment to help with the war effort.

Peggy attended Weber High School and in 1947, was chosen to be "The Days of '47" Queen for Roy City. She married Donald LaVerne Becker March 15, 1951 (marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple).

She was blessed with a natural talent for sewing. Under the tutelage of Dora Labrecque, she honed her skills while working at Skyline Sportswear in Ogden, Utah. After her marriage, and for the rest of her life, she served many people with this gift.

Peggy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Ward and Stake Primary Music Leader, Ward Primary and Young Women President, Stake Relief Society Counselor, and has faithfully served on the Wardrobe Committee of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square since 1976.

Through the diligent efforts of her biological sister's granddaughter, Peggy was miraculously found and has been greatly blessed with an additional family to love and be loved by.

She is survived by 3 children: DaVauna Arbon, Daunna (Ron) Stakebake, Darron (Debbie) Becker, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the Lindon Utah 16th Ward, 610 West 100 South. Friends and family may visit Monday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the City of Orem Cemetery. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and on Peggy's obituary page at www.russonmortuary.com.

The family would like to thank Julee Hamilton and the staff from Bristol Hospice for their love, care and support.

Peggy was always so kind to everyone. When fitting a dress she would take such care to make sure everything was perfect and all the Tabernacle Choir ladies looked glamorous. When I first got in the choir, she and two other dear sweet ladies made up the wardrobe committee. I referred to them as the good fairies. Peggy was the last of those three who stuck around during my term in the choir and I am so grateful to have had such a wonderful relationship with her. She was an angel to me. I dearly love her.

It was through their daughter DaVauna that I learned about the LDS Church way back in West Covina, CA, when we were 14, Peggy was always sewing, without any patterns, never seen anyone like her, their family was the first ones to know when my dad died in 1970, the stories I could tell (all great), I don't think there was a mean bone in her body, she's probably now pinning, fixing and sewing robes in Paradise, to DaVauna, Daunna and Darron, may sweet memories of your mom fill your days and her love keep your hearts full, until you meet again.

I was born and raised in Lawrence next to where Peggy lived. She was a person you would never forget.
She had that kind of presence about her. She never forgot me. Her brother, Carol (Bunk) Cullum was my uncle. Peggy and her husband Don will always remain with me. Peggy is singing with the angels now.

I never saw Peggy without a smile on her face. She was such a wonderful'talented delightful friend. She will be missed by all of her friends in the Tabernacle Choir and I will miss her sense of humor and kindness to all who passed her way. She was talented as a member of the Tabernacle Choir Dress Committee. She spent hours and hours sewing and meeting concert deadlines so choir dresses were always in perfect shape. May we rejoice in the goodness of her life at this difficult time.
