R. Tuttle Obituary

R. Floyd Tuttle 1930 ~ 2006 R. Floyd Tuttle, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on February 9, 2006. He was born April 1, 1930 in Springville, Utah to Francis Lamar Tuttle and Zola Otteson. Born on April Fool's Day, Floyd had a positive attitude and a fun loving sense of humor. He served an LDS Mission in the East Central States and upon his return, two weeks later, he married his high school sweetheart, Merilyn Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Floyd loved the Lord, his family and serving others. Church service was the hallmark of Floyd's life. He served in many church callings, among them, Bishop of the Mapleton 2nd Ward, an early morning Seminary Teacher, Bishop of the Sandy Young Adult Branch, Stake Presidency Member, and Full Time Missionary with wife, Merilyn. His home was characterized by an open door, especially for his grandchildren who knew that in a pinch Grandpa would help them anytime day or night - sometimes in his P.J.'s. His concern throughout his life, and even during his battle with cancer, was for his sweetheart Merilyn, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will miss his fun loving personality, support, love, and his chocolate malts. He was preceded in death by his son, David Tuttle (Debbie). Survived by his wife, Merilyn Johnson Tuttle and children: Robert Tuttle (Barbara), Cheryl Burke (Jerry), Marla Macdonald (Bob), LuAnn Samuelian (Mike), and John Tuttle. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Tuttle, his sister, Theora Boulton, 28 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. There will be a viewing held Sunday, February 12, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville, Utah. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 13, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Mapleton White Church, 31 West Maple Street, Mapleton where there will be a viewing held one hour prior to the services. Dear Marilyn and Family,

I, too, have many fond memories of Uncle Floyd. I spent many days and nights with my aunt, uncle and cousins. Uncle Floyd was a joy to be around...so happy and vivacious!! I remember the "tickle" sessions, being "whiskered" by his beard stubble, and learning double-talk. Whenever I saw him, he would start talking double talk to me. We would laugh like fools.

Aunt Marilyn...I love you very much, and will come to visit when I am in town. I hope you are comforted by knowing how much Uncle Floyd was loved.

Love always

Marilyn, We were very saddened to hear about Floyd's passing. We enjoyed our dinners together and the friendship that we had. Our prayers are with you at this time. He was a great man and is needed on the otherside to continue his work.

Dear Aunt Marilyn and Family,

Uncle Floyd was such a delight and wonderful man! Every time I would see him I was greeted with a happy smile and him asking me how is your family doing? Many found memories of going to California to see my cousins. I remember playing at the Tuttle house with the swimming pool and wondering if I was old enough to go to Disney land at night. He always gave me a wisker burn and made me laugh. He was very much fun to joke with, he enjoyed life to its fullest. I also remember his strong testimony of our Savior and how he truely loves his family. Keep his memories alive and he will always be with you. I love you all and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to know such a great man! Sincerely Christine Tuttle Monsen

We have missed you as neighbors, and thought of you often. It's still "The Tuttle House" on the corner. What a great man--gone on to do more great things. God blessed us to have shared time with you on the earth. May you be blessed with God's peace of heart knowing that Floyd has gone on to do great things in God's service on the other side.

What a blessing it is to know that Uncle Floyd was spiritually prepared to return home. Hopefully, that knowledge will be a source of comfort to all of us--but especially to all of you, his immediate family.

I loved Floyd, and have many great memories of that fun-loving man (not the least of which were the "tickle sessions" I experienced as a child whenever he was around)! He was always so positive and fun! One could not maintain a frown and be around him at the same time!

Some things that come to mind when I think of Uncle Floyd are:

Deep faith and love for the Lord.

Positive attitude no matter what!

Fabulous sense of humor.

So very willing to serve all of us.

Incredibly proud of his family.

(I've heard he was a "little" stubborn--but, then, aren't we all...??? And, besides, maybe that was just a rumor...!)

Several times over the years, Uncle Floyd gave me some much-needed "spiritual pep talks," which were extremely meaningful to me. He had a great knowledge and deep understanding of the Gospel, and was always so willing to share. I loved his eternal perspective! He truly was a great example to me, especially as I watched him and Merilyn be so supportive of friends, family and neighbors by attending absolutely "everything" they could manage. They have both been great examples to me in so many ways!

May you receive strength, comfort and peace during this difficult time--and please know that I love you all very, very much!

Love,

Kerry

A great and pleasant missionary companion in Oak Ridge Tennessee in 1950.

He spoke lovingly and often of "Merilyn", and written on the back of a missionary picture I looked at this morning was a note "when you get home go see that little gal of mine."
