Robert Jerald Fawcett

1960 ~ 2021

Robert Jerald Fawcett passed away October 10, 2021 at his home in Riverton, Utah. Born May 31,1960 in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was the oldest child of Jerald Lang Fawcett and Gayle Greenland.

Robert grew up in Bountiful, Utah, and later married Lucy Maughan on January 14, 1983 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Louisiana, Baton Rouge mission. He began his 38-year career in the computer science field working at American Express and later at IBM. He started out in computer operations and loved to share the story of how he worked his way up to become a mainframe systems programmer through hard work and education. He earned his bachelor's degree from Weber State while working and raising his family.

Besides his family, his passions in life were sports (playing, watching and refereeing), travel (especially if there was a theme park with roller coasters), and music (he loved singing in the choir).

He was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many capacities. His favorite callings were in helping the youth in the scouting and sports programs.

He was loved by so many and will be missed. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gayle. He is survived by his father, Jerald; his wife, Lucy; four siblings, Gaylene (Jeff) Rose, Michael (Shelly) Fawcett, Richard (Marcia) Fawcett, LeAnn Fawcett; five children, Rachael (Jeran) Farley, Amanda Fawcett, John (Rachel) Fawcett, Danielle (Austin) Smith, Jason (Jaquelynn) Fawcett; and nine grandchildren.

Robert was a constant, reliable, and straightforward man. He showed his love and devotion by small and frequent acts of service. He was a loyal person who always did his duty and gave his all.

A viewing will be held at 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Homes and Cremation Center (1007 South Jordan Pkwy, South Jordan, UT) from 6:00-8:00 (masks appreciated). I am so saddened to hear of Roberts passing. I worked with Robert for many years at AMEX/IBM. He was such a genuine and hard working person and was always so helpful. He will always be remembered as one of the best. My thoughts and prayers are with your family

We had a wonderful time traveling across the country with Robert, Lucy and Amanda, along with Jason and Jaquelynn, two years ago. Robert was so pleased to see all of the many sites we visited, but he was particularly excited about the roller coasters at the amusement parks. We could not even get him to stop to eat. He just ran from coaster to coaster! We also appreciate Robert and Lucy for raising such a wonderful son who is married to our youngest daughter. Our deepest sympathies to the Fawcett family with the loss of Robert. We so enjoyed our association with Robert while he was with us. He will be greatly missed.
