Robert Meibos Obituary

Robert B. Meibos

1929 ~ 2023

Robert (Bob) Bruce Meibos, age 93, was favored to be born near the mountains, which he loved, in Salt Lake City, November 13, 1929. He was the son of John K. Meibos and Emeline Michelsen Meibos.

He was educated in the Salt Lake public schools including Forest Elementary, Irving Junior High, and South High, graduating in 1947. He also attended the University of Utah and, after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Netherlands, graduated from Brigham Young University in 1956.

The best thing Bob did in life was marry Edith Anne Schaelling, daughter of Francis Warren Schaelling and Ada Walker Ward, in June 1954. They became the parents of Gretchen Ludlow (Allen), of Provo, Utah; Robert Bruce, Jr. (Cheryl), of El Sobrante, California; Karen Ada Little (Bud), of Auburn, Washington; Emily Van Wagenen (Rod), of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mary Anne Gurr (Tim), of American Fork, Utah; John Daniel (Corin), of Lone Tree, Colorado; David Warren (Melissa), of Herriman, Utah; and Sarah Nancy Ward (Aaron), of Littleton, Colorado.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in various organizations. He was a bishop and member of a stake high council in Colorado and Texas; a member of a stake presidency in Dallas, Texas; and a temple ordinance worker in the Dallas Texas Temple and Provo Utah Temple. With Edith Anne he served an employment mission in Charlotte, North Carolina and delighted in visiting the wards and branches throughout the state. He also served in a branch presidency at the Provo Missionary Training Center and as an employment advisor at the Provo Deseret Industries.

Bob served in the United States Air Force for three years (Texas and Montana), the Utah Air National Guard, and was employed for 33 years with Travelers Insurance Company in the Real Estate Investment Department in Dallas, Texas; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Denver, Colorado.

His hobbies included a lifelong devotion to family, tennis with his children and friends, skiing and hiking in the mountains, and family history.

He is preceded in death by his wife Edith, his son-in-law Allen Ludlow, his grandson Jason Gurr, his parents and four older brothers and three sisters including Alvin John Meibos, Harold Rasmus Meibos, John Kermit Meibos, Stanley Wallace Maywood, Ruby G (Meibos) Neerings, Julia Emeline (Meibos) Ringwood, and Marion Eleanor (Meibos) Chaffee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Pleasant View 7th Ward Chapel, 2445 North 650 East (Timpview Drive), Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Services. THE TIDE RECEDES BUT LEAVES BEHIND BRIGHT SEASHELLS ON THE SAND, THE SUN GOES DOWN BUT GENTLE WARMTH STILL LINGERS ON THE LAND, THE MUSIC STOPS AND YET IT ECHOES ON IN SWEET REFRAIN,
FOR EVERY JOY THAT PASSES SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL REMAINS
LOVING YOU ALWAYS, YOUR NIECE, SANDY REDDING
