He passed away June 5, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, after suffering a second massive stroke. Roy retired from the U.S. Marines as a Major after a 26-year career. Roy's biggest love was flying his Huey, fulfilling his dream since childhood.

I when Roy and the familia would come to Penasco during Semana Santa, where Tio Manuel belonged to the confradia. We would wait looking to the road to see if the red and white truck passed to their house. As soon as we saw it, we rushed to their house along the trail. There was poison ivy in the trail, but it didn't keep us from visiting. Feliz Anniversario primo! Un rinconcito en el cielo.

Dearest Family, Friends...Thanks so much for your beautiful postings. It's conforting to know how much Roy was loved and respected. I will print entries for Mom. It will be a long and difficult time without Roy, but we'll continue to console ourselves in knowing that Roy is walking tall and straight. He is not dealing with the struggles of daily life. Dear Trujillo Family, Words can not impart the intense emptiness we feel in knowing that Roy is no longer with us. We seek consolation in praying and knowing that he is in a higher place. Still, we continue to pray for his loving mother and family. Lydia, the love you have for each other is a witness to us all, as you have cared for him so lovingly over these past 20 months. Nothing is the same. Keep in touch and please remember us to your family. We had a Mass said for Roy on the day he died in our school Chapel at Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School. I first met Maj. Trujillo as a 1stLt in 1988 for the Vipers WestPac. He was also my OIC for a time in the Airframes Shop. I was very fortunate as a young enlisted Marine to have him as my leader. He was a respected Marine and always set the example as an Officer. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Lydia: Becki and I know this is a time of great grief from the loss of your brother. We share that loss and will miss Roy until we see him again. Our faith teaches us that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Roy is there now-whole once again and smiling.
I know how he loved the Southwest. He seemed at his best running around there, it was just roomy enough for his spirit. But he really loved winning. I can still see that grin of his as we (often) paid him off on friendly wagers. Followed by his usual punch-line when I threw wadded-up bills at him in losing frustration: "Now XO, you know I don't like my money folded like that!" Then the laugh.
Roy was an even bigger winner in life. Tractor did his job (as only a Marine could), served his country (as only a Marine could), never complained and made us all want to be around him. I pray we see his like again, even as I know we will see him again,
Until then we will miss him very much, Sermer Fi Roy,
God bless you and all your family in this time of mourning: brighter days will come.

A totally LOYAL USMC Officer who took care of his "troops" - always!
When thinking of the Tractor, I'll always remember 2 sayings (after winning at Klondike): 1. "Pay the Tractor" and 2. "You know I don't like my money folded that way!"

"Luv Tractor",

I'll never forget the first time meeting you and hearing your call sign and thinking, "How the hell did you get that callsign?"

I have fond memories of you and "Flares" running the Maintenance Dept in '94-'95... Long, patient hours spent trying to get the Hueys back up following Phase maintenance... Drinking beer on Fridays at the Del Mar O'Club... and an amazing flight over Okinawa.

I am so glad we got to talk last year...

Rest in Peace, Marine!

There are some people who touch our hearts and our souls. This was Roy. I knew Roy when he was starting the journey to his dream. For this I have always felt blessed. As sad as the news of his early passing was. My heart danced to see he had lived his dream and touched some many people....

Many of Major Trujillo's friends and family have expressed what a great mentor and leader Roy was and how he cared for his Marines. It has also been mentioned that he was an enlisted Marine's Marine. I am proud to say that I am but one of Roy's reclamation projects. Through his guidance, inspiration and example I was raised as a young enlisted Viper into the officer corps of Marines. It is unlikely I would or could have done so without his altruistic nature and professional tutelage. It should also be said that I always felt as safe as one could feel in a huey when Tractor had the stick. Finally, I don't seem to recall much that happens in current life, but there are few things I will ever forget from my days as a Viper! Roy, you are indeed World Famous, and I guarantee we are all better off because We've Heard of You! God Bless You Sir!

Uncle Roy,
You were always the "COOL" uncle. Always joking with us and making fun of us ... (all your sweathogs). I remember when I was about 8 yrs old with a loose tooth and you begged me for hours to let you pull it! You even tried to bribe me with $100.00 but I still wouldn't let you! LOL ... I love to tell Destiny that story. I will always remember all the good times!
Destiny always looked up to you too. You made her feel safe and confortable around you and she always looked forward to seeing you! Thank you for loving my Destiny and Aryanna! We will miss you forever!
I love you Always,
Your niece, Your SweatHog,

Trujillo Family,
I feel fortunate to have known Roy, both has a Marine comrade and as a dear friend, a brother in fact. He has been a beloved member of my family since our days together at NAS Memphis and weekends in Springfield. To say he was a great person is an understatement.
I have a son who just hours ago arrived in Hawaii to begin his Marine career as a Huey mechanic. I have asked the Lord to task Roy with being his guardian angel.
God bless you all

The Officer's & Enlisted Marines of a helicopter squadron are closer than any fixed wing, or ground organization in the Corps. As an Aircraft Maintenance Officer, (then) Major Trujillo, trusted his senior Enlisted personnel with the duties assigned, and gave as much respect as he earned from all of us. A lasting impression was made with everyone who ever had the privilege of meeting this Marine Officer, I'm certain of that. We'll see you again, Sir, when we receive our new Flight Schedule, as well!
