- Sheila Marie Mason Wood
October 17, 1942 – October 15, 2025
Sheila Marie Mason Wood, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Murray, Utah-just two days shy of her 83rd birthday.
Sheila was born on October 17, 1942, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Belmont Arnold Mason and Theresa Jennie Hawkes. She was raised in Idaho Falls alongside her beloved brothers Barton Monte Mason (Hortensia), Bradley Joseph Mason (Jensine), and David Hal Mason (Marcia). Sheila graduated from Idaho Falls High School, where she was active in the Pep Club and began cultivating her lifelong love of music and learning. Following graduation, she attended Ricks College (now Brigham Young University–Idaho), where she studied organ and music theory, deepening the passion for music that would shape much of her life.
At the age of 20, Sheila moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she worked at Sears. It was there she met the love of her life, Lynn T. Wood. The two were married on August 1, 1964, and together built a beautiful life and family. They are the proud parents of six children:
•Steven Lynn Wood (Nanette)
•Michelle Marie Cramer (Donald)
•Jonathan David Wood (Alyson)
•Richard Mason Wood (Kim)
•Jeffrey Scott Wood (Heather)
•Brian Joseph Wood (Allie)
Sheila's legacy includes 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, with four more expected soon. Her family was her greatest joy, and she considered them her life's most meaningful accomplishment.
A lifelong learner with a deep thirst for knowledge, Sheila served her community in many ways. She was the longtime President of the Murray City Library Board and spent over 30 years working for the Salt Lake City School District, primarily as an ESL aide and specialist in assessing and placing students with special needs. Her compassion and dedication touched countless lives.
Sheila's love for music began early and remained a defining part of her life. She served as the ward organist for nearly 50 years in her church congregation. Whether it was a hymn or a Beach Boys tune, music always got her heart-and often her feet-moving.
A woman of deep faith, Sheila's guiding desire was to be found faithful when she met her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her testimony of the gospel and her commitment to service inspired those around her and left a lasting impact on her family, friends, and community.
A viewing will be held Thursday, October 24, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 619 W 5750 S, Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Friday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., preceded by a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
