Susan Jarvis Obituary
Susan Kay Jarvis
1944-2025
Murray, UT - Susan Kay Jarvis (née Johnson), age 81, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, in South Jordan, Utah. Born on June 23, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Susan lived a life marked by compassion, service, and unwavering faith.
From a young age, Susan developed a deep love for learning and creativity. Raised in a military family, she lived in various locations throughout the United States and in Germany, which enriched her appreciation for diverse regions and cultures. While living in Texas, she met her husband George, who was completing his basic training with the U.S. Army. Susan pursued her formal education by attending beauty school in Salt Lake City, to become a licensed beautician. Her professional journey was as diverse as it was dedicated-she worked not only as a beautician but also in various fabric and sewing machine stores where her passion for sewing and creativity flourished. She later achieved considerable success as an Avon District Sales Manager and Trainer, mentoring others with the same care and enthusiasm she brought to every aspect of her life.
Susan's thirst for knowledge never waned. Throughout her life, she completed numerous educational and religious courses that enriched her understanding of the world around her and deepened her spiritual convictions.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Susan served faithfully in many callings over the years. Her roles included Temple Worker, Relief Society President, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, and many others. Through these callings, she touched countless lives with her kindness and dedication. Her faith was not just a belief system-it was a way of life that guided her through every action.
Susan's heart was always open to those in need. Alongside raising five children-Wendy, Phillip (Rebekah), Brian (Paula), Wayne (Danielle), and Francine (Stuart)-she extended her love to many "bonus" children and grandchildren throughout the years. Her home became a sanctuary for unwed mothers seeking support, exchange students far from home, relatives needing a bit of comfort and family, and friends who found peace in her presence. She gave freely of herself to ensure others felt safe, valued, and loved.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, George Alma Jarvis; their five children; fourteen grandchildren-Mikalle Foster, Kendalle Foster, Andrea Jarvis, Alexis Jarvis, Spencer Jarvis, Adam Jarvis, Wyatt Jarvis, Tyler Jarvis, Carson Jarvis, Jonah Jarvis, Kormac Jarvis, Emily Mackey, Samuel Mackey, and Abigail Mackey; her brother Art Johnson; and sister Linda Lefler.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Dorothy Johnson and Earl Cheney; brother Dale Johnson; and sister Ruth Wilcox.
Her hobbies reflected the warmth of her spirit: sewing and knitting of all kinds filled her hands and heart with purpose; genealogy connected her to generations past; reading expanded her mind; playing the piano brought music into everyday moments; and puzzles challenged her intellect while offering quiet joy.
Susan Kay Jarvis will be remembered as a beloved wife and mother whose legacy is one of service rooted in faith and compassion. Her gentle strength uplifted those around her. She leaves behind a tapestry of love woven through decades of selfless giving.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her. A Viewing will be held November 24, 2025 from 6-8 pm at Valley Park Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5750 So. Nena Way. A viewing and funeral service will follow on November 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A Graveside Service will be held on November 25, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 So.)
