VAL SAMUELSON Obituary

Val A. Samuelson 1954 ~ 2010 CORNISH - Valoran "Val" Arvin Samuelson, 55, passed away Sept. 16, 2010, just four weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. Val was born Dec. 12, 1954 to Valoran (Boe) W. Samuelson and Jeneve Heugly Samuelson in Salt Lake City. Val grew up in Midvale and Riverton, Utah, where he spent a lot of his time raising and showing livestock. Val served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Birmingham, England. He later met his sweetheart, Colleen Lingmann, and they were married on Nov. 16, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple. Val was an active member of the church and served faithfully in many different church callings. He was considered a "Jack of all trades," and was a talented salesman, ring man, and carpenter. He also had a lifelong love for livestock and agriculture. He enjoyed cooking and loved to feed people. Val was a very friendly, outgoing person who always seemed to know people everywhere he went. Val is survived by his wife, Colleen; his children: Jay, Jill (Ian) Weaver, Katie, and Spencer; his grandson, Kip Weaver; his mother, Jeneve; his sisters, Nancie (Dale) Curtis and Robyn (Mark) Nilsson; and his father-in-law, Orson Lingmann. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 24, at 12 noon at the Cornish LDS Chapel, 11400 N. Highway 23, Trenton, Utah, and are under the direction of SereniCare Funeral Home in Ogden. Friends and family may pay their respects Thursday night at the church from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m., prior to services. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.serenicare.com.

Dear Aunt Colleen and Jay, Jill, Katie, & Spencer:
We love you and send loving hugs your way. We so much wish we could be there for you during this time. What wonderful memories that I have of my Favorite Uncle Val. I will so much miss his big hugs, his laugh, and delicious cooking at family parties. I have always been impressed by his hard-working attitude and that he was always willing to do any job to support his family. He was truly very talented at many things. I am so thankful for the blessings of eternal families and that we will all be together again.
With Love, The Awtrey Family

Dear Colleen and family,
My heart has been greatly saddened this day to learn of the passing of your dear husband, father and friend. I feel so grateful that my path in mortality crossed--albeit so very briefly--with Val's so many years ago when we served together as counselors in the Elders Quorum presidency of our Rosecrest 2nd Ward in Salt Lake. What a truly choice and gentle spirit he possessed! I know that our loving and all-knowing Heavenly Father needs him at this time for another calling on the other side of the veil. My sincerest thoughts and prayers will be that you will find much peace and comfort during this time of loss and in the days, weeks and years ahead. I feel confident that Val has already heard, by now, these words from the Savior himself, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!"
