Vonna Polad Obituary

1920 ~ 2018
Vonna Fullmer Polad, 98, passed away quietly on Monday, April 23, 2018, in Lehi, Utah. She was born on February 13, 1920, in Circleville, Utah, to Arvil Elton Fullmer and Maud Miller Fullmer. She was the second of eight children.
The family moved from Circleville to Draper in 1929 and then to Salt Lake City. Vonna graduated from South High School in 1937. Throughout her lifetime she took advantage of numerous opportunities for further education through employment and through her zeal for constant learning and growing. She was an avid reader of good books, and she was a poet. Her life is an example to all who knew her.
Vonna (also known as Bonnie) met and married Harry Emanuel Polad in 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in December of 1957. They were always sweethearts to each other and still are. Harry passed away in 1980.
She was a master seamstress and made everything from baby clothes to wedding dresses and tailored suits. Vonna enjoyed making most of the clothes for her four daughters.
At age six or seven she heard a small airplane flying above Circleville and watched it fly all across the valley. This incident began her lifelong interest and love for aviation. Most of her working life has been involved with aircraft - a template maker at Hill Air Force Base for five years, and twenty-six years at Litton Industries in various positions in drafting and engineering projects in missile guidance systems. When she retired, Vonna was replaced by several employees. At that time she became a volunteer ushering at Symphony Hall and the Salt Lake Tabernacle.
Throughout the years Vonna has served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and especially enjoyed family history and temple work, and was also an ordinance temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Vonna loved serving and helping other people.
Vonna is preceded in death by her husband Harry Emanuel Polad and by her son Linden Fullmer Polad, and six of her siblings. She is survived by four daughters: Vonna Rae Plescia (Ralphael), Mary Lynne Polad, Deanna Gill (Francis), and Shelley Powell (Terry); her sister Fay Reta Farb (Norman); 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East So. Temple in Salt Lake City, Friday, April 27 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ensign Stake Chapel, 135 A Street in Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral services.
The family would like to express special thanks to all caregivers, friends and medical professionals who have rendered help and aid for Vonna during the last several months. We very much appreciate your care and kindness.

This great lady was Christian both in and out of church. It was a joy to have known her.

We will always remember Harry and Vonna as the cute couple who always greeted us as newly weds each Sunday when we arrived at church. Her with her giant of a smile and Harry with a firm hand shake. Hope your reunion was like a second honeymoon. We are blessed from having known these wonderful people!!

I am so sorry for your lose. Vonna and Harry helped me to have an interest in Family History. Harry made a rock with his wires and we had that for many, many years. Each time we looked at it we always remembered your parents. Phil & Harry served on the High Council together in Park Stake.
We remember them both fondly.
